Oh please. The Equinox gets 1mpg better highway mileage, than the Escape Hybrid. It also gets 12mpg LESS city mileage, and 6mpg LESS combined mileage.

Don't take the hype too seriously.

One would think that the hybrid should trump it on the highway too. It is a great accomplishment for the 2.4L DI engine and for GM to get the mileage that they do out of it. For the lower cost of the Equinox, you could have a lot of gas for the city driving.

non hybrid 2.5L Ford is rated at 28mpg so the hybrid gains 3mpg. Perhaps an Escape with a Chevy 2.4L would be getting 34mpg+

Agreed, but people are going to take them on the highway too. I don't think there a many hybrids that are in the same segment of vehicle that get worse highway mileage to non hybrid counter parts.

One would hope so. I was thinking more on the 35mpg+ with that engine. Just shows that the 2.4L DI engine is pretty awesome.

the regular malibu ties the altima hybrid for highway but like i said hybrids are bought more for the city numbers. if someone does alot of highway mileage they are better off in a non-hybrid version or a diesel car.

That is exactly what I meant was that is doesn't exist at GM. And it is relevant because GM would have to design a new system for it to work on OHC engines. It maybe under development for the 3.6L V6 and its variants but its not currently offered on any OHC engine from GM.
