How would our friends from Oz feel about the Monaro replacement.....

Camaro is definitely about Chevy in much the same way as Corvette. The other alternative is to wait for (Pontiac) GTO and give it a Holden badge.
Sibling rivalry at its best!

Because the car doesn't look like a Monaro...it looks like a Camaro. Australians don't know what the hell a Camaro is...to 99% of the people it will be a new car name. I don't see any point then not calling it a Holden, as the Camaro heritage is lost on us.

Its always been a 2-door version of the standard 4-door car be it the Kingswood or now the Commodore. Not knocking the Camaro I like the car...just don't think it fits the Monaro.

People are aware of the Camaro nameplate just as they are Mustang... as they are Corvette. We have heaps of Chevy vehicles here, albeit privately imported. There's also lots of Mustangs... also privately imported. The issue of the buying public not relating to the Chevy badge is a moot point, IMO. What buyers will get is something "exclusive" downunder and that's gotta count for something.

People know the Mustang and Corvette, but Camaro is not really known in Australia. I didn't know what one was untill I stumbled upon this website in 2002.

But if Chevrolet sold a Camaro in Australia, it's probally very safe to say it would be sold through Holden dealers. Knowing that GM would probally want to expand the Camaro name, it's probally equally safe to say the car would be still called Camaro.
Because of circumstances, I suspect Holden will have their own car made here with the Camaro with a different appearence (more likely similar to the Pontiac "coupe").

Here's some pictures of older Monaros:

They're not too far off of the new Camaro...

Bob Jane also raced Camaro with great success in the 60s and 70s against the Moffat/Gheoghan Mustangs.
Most of the above was before my time, but I have taken a keen interest in hardtop racing... and the Camaro name is very much part of Australia's motorsport history.
