I.... don't .... understand ... it.
These ... people? don't seem to care whether it makes 300 or 350. They are going to buy the '05. It could have 260 and be like the old GT and they'd buy it.
Some even claim this is the FIRST time 300 hp has ever been able to be had for so cheap.
It's as if everyone is upgrading from an '83 chevette.
WOW.

There is a big difference. I don't think the Camaro crowd is wrong for wanting a car that performs better than most out there, including Mustang, but this type of thinking will only end up hurting sales (if you're trying to sell a lot of them which GM was trying to do). I think GM has realized this and is going to make a more Mustang like car with the next Camaro. I know that scares some, but nobody is saying can't perform better than the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Gen F-bodies.

I do see where you're coming from, but at the same time I see a lot more. Eight million Mustangs sold, there's got to be a reason for that other than the name. I still own my 67 that's modified and a very fun car to drive. It's not the greatest car in the world, but people know what it is, it looks good, goes fast and with the suspension upgrades I did to it, handles fairly well. There's a lot of reasons why people buy Mustangs, I know what mine are and they are so many that they won't fit in this post

I don't see how people are trying to say it will be M*stang-like. Why, because dimensions will be reduced? Because it will have more engine options? Because it might have a trunk and quarter window? That stuff has all been Camaro too. I would bet on the car being bigger, wider, and lower than the M*stang, even if it's not by much.

Here is an example of something related to this. I bought my 95' Z28 in September 98' and one month later, a friend of mine bought a 96' GT. He was thinking about getting an F-body because the performance differential was huge but he still got the Mustang because he had owned a Mustang before and his father only buys Fords so therefor, so does he. That was directly out of his mouth, not my interpretation. I always thought that was really strange and a terrible reason to buy a car, or stick to a brand. After his purchase he said he should have bought an F-body but admitted he would not actually do it.

Kinda sounds like when I said a month or so ago that I felt more enthusiats buy Camaros than M*stangs.
Or you can also say that more "casual" buyers buy M*stangs than Camaros.

I also think it is fair to say that the Camaro is more performance oriented than the Mustang and also that more enthusiasts buy Camaros. Not that this is good or bad, it is what it is.

Re: How will a 5.3 5th gen compare to an LS1...and to Mustang GT?
There is a big aftermarket for Camaros too. I don't know how that being true or not either way would make one group better enthusiasts.
Re: How will a 5.3 5th gen compare to an LS1...and to Mustang GT?
It is good that Ford started offering the Cobra/Mach 1 or they would have had big problems with the enthusiasts.
Also, with my friend with the Mustang, he did like the whole " 'Stang Community" thing and liked to say that he had a " 'Stang". He was shunned by the 5.0 community some because he had the 4.6 and it was still pretty new then and looked down upon.
