How Fast should GM have made the current Silverado SS
How Fast should GM have made the current Silverado SS
A lot of peole on here complain about the performance for the price of the Extended Cab Silverado SS
Car and driver did the 1/4mi. in 14.8 with the current truck.
My question is, how fast do you guys think it should have been assuming it would still cost $40K be AWD and Ext. cab?

I finally drove one of these last weekend. After that I went to the Ford dealership hoping to drive a Harley truck, but they didn't have anymore.
The looks are good. I'd prefer 18" rims over the 20s. There is a lot of unsprung weight to be lost doing that. The ride is a bit rough, but it handles very well. The engine is plenty strong to pull a 5k# truck to 14.8.
I just can't see what GM's problem is with giving us (performance minded customers) what we want. The only expensive part would be the transmission. I'm not so sure GM's version of the T56 is strong enough for a truck. Yeah, the Viper's version takes 500+hp/500+tq, but the vehicle is also 100# lighter than what a RWD SS would weigh.
If the reg cab RWD Silverado SS were available, I'd definitely find a way to get one. I need a truck and the Lightning is the most appealing to me in the bang for your buck category.

The current, ext-cab Silverado SS is plenty fast IMO. It was built for more show than go and belive it or not, some people (if not most) are into that. I wouldn't buy one, but they are nice trucks for people wanting that sort of vehicle.
If they would've built the reg cab Silverado SS, and it wasn't at least as fast as the Lightning, then I'd be upset. The reg-cab was more go and less show. That's what I (and most folks on this board) would be looking for in a truck. If they built it and it was as affordable as the mags were saying, I'd definatly consider that truck.
Just my $.02

Silverado SS is plenty fast for what it is: an AWD, extended cab, sporty pickup truck pushing at least 2 1/2 tons. It's about as quick as 5.0 Mustangs, so it's no slouch. The only reason it seems slow is because Ford's Lightning is a verifyable rocket and it's relatively cheap to buy!
My dad had his truck in the dealer shop a couple of weeks ago, and he mentioned how much he loved the new Silverado SS he saw in the showroom....till he saw the price. He said somthing to the effect of them being out of their minds.
The only other discussion I've been in over it involved someone who also wondered why it was priced so high. He pointed out it cost more than the Harley Davidson Ford, yet the Ford had 4 doors, a supercharger, and was "fancier".
Regardless as to how Chevy & GM spins this, the SS isn't doing too well.
I guess they can always say the truck was never intended to sell in huge numbers.
