My LT1's driver's window is to the point of needing to be replaced. The car is 14 years old and has 107k miles on it. It still works, but will sometimes stop halfway and have to "rest" for a few seconds before continuing. Passenger side still works fine. Both have always been a bit slower than I'd prefer, but...

GM garbage.

The 97 was under warranty when it's motor first crapped out. After I found out these pieces of s*it were pop rivited into the door, I figured it would be best to have the dealer do them, and have done it every time since.

It's a crying shame that Autozone (as well as every other car maker) can make a power window motor, yet GM couldn't.... or at least had a moronic idiot that signed off of this one.

Thanks for the advice. I'll certainly go that route this time.

they are not THAT bad to replace.

I would tell people not to buy them because of the 6 speed hydraulic shift issues and the glass 10 bolt rear but getting an auto eliminates one problem and alleviates the other...
Like I said before, PW motors are basic, simple, and relatively easy to get right. A kid in a high school electric shop can probably make one that will last. That GM didn't shows either unbelievably poor ability or even worse, abysmally poor judgement in OK-ing these units.

It this was the old GM, I'd would have written them off last week when my PW motor stopped again, this time in the rain.

Never had an issue with the 6 speed in my '97. However, the CHP evidently needed to replace the rearend in my B4C TWICE in the 3 years they had it before I bought it (They keep a history of repairs and will show buyers on request) and the automatic transmission was also replaced.

I've always cautioned anyone that asked me about my opinion on them that the cars have issues, but I've normally reccomended them over Mustang GTs (save post 99s) because in most instances, Z28s are cheaper and generally a good buy. The current Camaro I have is by far the best one..... but that's because the CHP had to replace most of the items that constantly break (some more than once) before they put mine on sale (and the reason why I bought it even though I wasn't in the market).

I love my car, I've owned three 4th gens, and I've had a 4th gen in my possesion for over 12 years. But I don't reccomend these cars anymore. They represent everything the old GM was. I've also never owned a name associated with so many troubles (both myself and others) that are the result of GM simply wanting to get tons of money through their parts department and not being the least bit concerned about how the public's opinion of their cars would wind up in the toilet because of this practice.

That's why even though I've never owned a import brand, I have never really criticized anyone who did because they felt domestic brands (especially GM) was crap.

They did it to themselves.
