so basically its happened to 0% of its minivans, which last i checked is still less than .05%

I have come to agree with many of your posts and your views, but you are quite the import fanatic I am coming to understand. At first I thought others got you wrong, now I know where they're coming from.
To post what you posted in this thread is ignoring the history of this message board, and the history of recalls in the past. Granted, I will agree that import recall is getting more coverage in the media, but they are not ripped and talked about as much as domestic.
Sure, we have been beating this horse dead many times over, and because of poor coverage of foreign (read: japanese) recalls we bashed the media. Now things are turning a little, and you come with posts like those?
Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
Okay there is a difference in recalls...
There is one that is a potential problem... Problem being on my elantra that I haven't taken in yet, because I really dont have the time to goto a dealership and leave them my car... "The airbags did not deploy as expected in a 40mph crash" is the letter I received. 2005 Elantra made prior to December of 2005.
Then there is GM's recall, and If I remember it correctly They made the tailgate cables out of a material that either rusts or corrodes, and after several years the cables were weak enough to snap and break. I know 2 trucks that had broken their cables, one person knew about the recall the other just let the tailgate ride the bumper (dent it tailgate) while they were loading their truck. i think only 38 were injured off of 3.5 million vehicles, at least of time of recall
There is the recall on the Avolon, where the Yoke was never welded on in the first place. Thats not a mess up of .05% of vehicles, thats every single vehicle, similar to the GM recall. Except its probably a bit more dangerous.

Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
The "reason" for my post was simply to show that the Japanese / import cars have their fair share of problems too....something mainstream media has swept under the rug until very recently...but still hammer domestics much more with snide comments.
GM earned their own bad reputation for this stuff in the past, but is not getting a fair shake in recent press......
....now the rest of this pissin' match can just be forgotten......

Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
Half of the recalls I've seen are results of complete idiots.
I had to take my 2000 Venture in and have a door handle replaced.
They said that if you held on to it just right, when the automatic door was opening, and you didn't let go of the handle - it could lead to bodiliy injury.
(Probably the results of some SUE crazy idiot who's got his head so far up his *** that he can't figure out when to let go of the door handle...
GEE I WONDER WHAT'LL HAPPEN IF I STICK MY HAND INTO THE FAN - OUCH! Time to go sue for more fan guards...) blah blah blah
Wow I've been really ranty today, LOL.
Everybody has recalls, it's unfortunate when it happens to Domestic and Foreign companies as some can cause risk to human life and thats never a good thing.
Let's just hope they are covered on both sides.

Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
This thread has become nothing more than humorous. The recall is posted, then everybody goes up in arms saying the same stuff over about how Hondas are crap and how the biased media will never post it.
Then I show you that in less than 24 hours there has been a major article with nearly 200 news organizations including all the major ones regarding this recall. Then somebody says 'oh... well I guess they have been getting a little better about reporting this stuff recently' and then somebody else tries to turn it around talking about how some recall only affected .05% of cars yet they were all recalled, and anasazi says this recall affected absolutely 0% of the cars recalled... it was just thought to be a potential problem.
Then you guys have nothing left to use for an arguement so you go to attacking me personally calling me an import fanboy and redzed and so on and so forth? Get a grip on reality people. Stick to the discussion. It's OK to admit you might have been wrong on the whole 'media never says anything about these recalls' crap. You don't have to backpeddle and then try and change the subject.
And I've already explained. I KNOW I come across at the Toyota/Honda fanboy on this site. I focus an uneven amount of attention on this because have almost ZERO voice on this site. I don't spend nearly as much time on the import boards that I'm a member of just because I don't consider them "home" (notice I've been here almost seven years... much longer than any other board I'm still an active member of). But if you look at my posts on that board when somebody tries to bash a domestic car, I will stand up for those as well. I basically like to consider myself as an unbiased person. But in that same regard I end up having to play the devil's advocate many times just to keep the discussion somewhat fair and balanced instead of being one giant circle jerk of chevy guys repeating the same crap over and over again.

Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
I can't disagree with you Threxx. I've learned you have to read and ignore sometimes the people that should have been born in the 40's. If you try to bring them back to reality (2005) they think your ending their whole world... heh
Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
I think we can drop the "circle jerk" stuff already. Everyone knows where you stand w.r.t. the 5th Gen/Future Vehicles Forum. It should come as no surprise that, on a GM vehicle-based enthusiast site, there might be a few people wanting to see the company succeed. Basically, everyone needs to take it easy. Threxx is NOT another redzed (let's be careful about calling names like that, for Pete's sake). I do think you (Threxx) have drunk a little too deeply from the "GM built nothing but garbage for years and they are still way behind, but admittedly getting a little better" well. But Kyle is a pretty respected member of the board (which doesn't make anyone right all the time, of course
). It is good to have intelligent people (and there are lots in here, including Kyle) contributing.
Anyway, and this may be a bit nitpicky, but I'm curious about how exactly those 200 or whatever news links word the recalls. I noticed on cnn.com yesterday that there was a small link in blue that said "85000 minivans recalled", or something like that. It did not say whose vans (Honda's). Is that consistent with how they normally do it? Is it something that varies just based on whichever editor happened to be working the webpage that day? Or, if it had been GM or Ford, would it have said "Ford recalls 85000 Freestar minivans" on the front page, maybe with a subtitle saying "Recall comes at a bad time for already struggling automaker" thrown in for good measure? I'm asking, not stating, because I don't pay that much attention. Just something I thought of when I saw "85000 minivans recalled" as the little link tagline, which I thought was rather vague.
I fully believe there is still a general bias in the media on the subject of cars. Some is intentional, but much of it is probably because the idiots in the media are not necessarily car people, and the media love to piggyback off each other.
Just some thoughts.

Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
I'd like to say I'm Bias... I've had exceedingly bad quality from Toyota Vehicles.
sure i can say I wish GM to succeed, cause they make cars that I would like to drive in. From experiance the vehicles I have been in are way more exhilerating to even sit in then thier import competators.
But can I say it wasn't a pleasent feeling to have you're automatic camry stall on the freeway in traffic? and take me nearly 1 minute to get it back moving?
Can I say it sucks to not be able to park a car on a hill because it's parking brake is completely defective?
Can I say that being stuck on the side of the road because of a toyota recall? Because the head gasket blew on the engine and I was on the side of the road for nearly 5 hours? Sure the tow truck didnt see me, and took 2 calls to get him out (or did he not come, damn AAA?)
Being in a family where 7 vehicles are in the driveway, 3 are toyota, 2 ford 1 honda and my hyundai, and my pontiac... I know a lot of problems with Toyotas, and I know them well.
Toyotas and Hondas need just as much bad press as anyone else... They dont make the best products...

Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
They should all get equal press, good or bad. It's the truth I'm most interested in. If you're an intelligent consumer, that's what'll matter most to you also. I've recently stopped being brand loyal for a very good reason and just because I've chosen another brand doesn't mean I'm about to "defend" it or it's quality. It either has it or it doesn't.
Everybody's going to stay loyal or move on based on their own experiences. My recent troubles don't affect any of you, but you can't tell me that because your experiences aren't the same as mine, that somehow mine don't exist or shouldn't matter to me.

And speaking of circle jerk. It is sooo cliche... and it's happening at both camps. Just take a look at your supporters' responses.
