Hold it right there, chief.
Posts are made on this board of just about every recall that is reported. Go check it out yourself. There have been plenty of GM recalls that have been discussed, along with Ford, DCX, etc. True, we are GM supporters, but the majority of the level-headed folks here don't wear blinders.

I'll bet it can keep up with the Cobalt SS my best friend just bought, too
Darth and Proud,
Yeah, running through this post...yep, I'd say the same people who always bring up GM "crap quality" and recalls are the ones voicing a negative opinion of us. What a surprise

As of 7:30 EDT, it's on the front page of CNN/Money and the Business section of MSNBC. Of course, it's a lot easier to claim that import recalls never get any attention. Didn't we just go over this during the Toyota balljoint recall, where it got splattered across the front of every major news website and make the evening news?

any event GM sells more cars so it recalls more, but 3 million tailgate cables where 38 people were injured, vrs the Accords that didnt stop when they were in park or the Prius that stopped on the highway.. i mean sure GM had to recall a lot, but GM is doing the right thing and being the largest automaker, mistakes happen, but hopefully the serious ones get left in the factorys and fixed...

172 links to the article from the news sources that google scans, at least, all referring to this recall
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ne...reut/&filter=0
Every last major news network I can think of is mentioned in that list.
Strange... doesn't quite seem like the picture you guys paint with your moaning and whining of a biased media.

I have noticed that it is getting better, but in the not too distant past, it was very obvious.
Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
All I will say is that I watched my local news from 5:30-6:30pm, then watched the NBC nightly News (with Campbell Brown because Brian was on vacation), and I saw NOTHING of this recall notice on either one.
Then I watched the 10pm news on our local FOX station from the bed... nothing.
Ford voluntarilly recalled 111 of their GT's to replace front A-arms under SPECULATION they would crack, without even a single consumer report to the NHSTA. They opted to machine the replacement arms out of billet stock (which costs a TON, but makes a stronger part than casting), creating the most expensive suspension component ever put on a production car. And they catered to every owner with pick-up, service, and delivery of the cars.
That is what I call standing behind your product and putting the safety first, and it's a far cry from reluctantly fixing a brake problem on 200,000 vehicles, oil filter fires on 150,000 units, or airbag issues on 85,000 units.
Yet not only did Ford make the paper news, but the TV news as well, and they are still getting bashed because the "$135k car had another recall".
No more than two people can ride in the GT, and most often they are on a track wearing helmets and race suits.
Families buy minivans to haul families and children in, and drive solely on the streets with shorts and flip-flops on their feet.
That's all I'm going to say. :blah:

Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
While we are at it, let's go ahead and fore-warn everyone in here that Ford is looking at a potential recall on 266,000 Volvos for a fualty electronic throttle component. Right now it is only a preliminary investigation.
http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/irep2e_20050802.htm
"The inquiry covers sedans, station wagons and convertibles from 1999 through 2001 with electronic throttle controls, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its Web site. The review was prompted by 136 complaints, including one accident with two injuries, the Washington-based agency said Monday."
The amazing statistic is this...
136 complaints out of 266,000 units = .05% of the vehicles, or 1 complaint for every 1,956 vehicles sold. Anybody out here in internetworld think you can assemble 2000 electronic throttlebody assemblies and calibrate the TPS controls as quick as possible and not screw-up one single time? I don't.
It's just d@mn hard to assemble something as complex as a modern car and not have some abnormalities in them - sometimes these anomalies affect a safety or functional part, sometimes they affect the stereo speakers or seat stitching...
Bottom line is that as cars become more and more complex, these recalls are going to occurr more and more often - to both US automakers AND import/offshore companies. We may as well get used to it.

Re: Honda recalls more than 85,000 minivans
the funniest thing about threads like this is that its rare for anyone to actually know anything about the recall in question, such is the case with this thread.
i'd like to point out that honda is doing a recall for a potential defect that has never been reported as to happening in the real world and has never hurt a single person or caused any property damage.
so basically its happened to 0% of its minivans, which last i checked is still less than .05%
