I can understand why a Mustang GT weighs 3450lbs, similar to a camaro, but not why a Cobra or Shelby (purpose built cars) weigh as much or in many cases a lot more!
However, being a concept it's possible.
Re: holy ****! new ford!!!!
Looks to be a bit heavy but....yes, you can quote me... I like this car. Again, Ford goes back to an old design (Daytona Coupe), but it has a lot of Aston in it, and gives it a very cool design.
Looks to be front engine, RWD. 80k might be a bit cheap for this car. I say closer to 90k. Even Dodge cant ge teh Viper below 85k. But I forgot, Ford is the best.

3900??? god god, thats more than the curb weight of MY car!
2900 might be closer, considering the cobras weight of a little over 3k. seeing as its a hardtop, it should be less, right? maybe im totally off on this though...
christ, at 3900 that thing better have the nicest damn interior EVAR

Ok, finished all the work related stuff, & got a chance to post a thread about the Ford event: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=291646
First of all, the Shelby GT concept is a shell. It isn't a real car. Short of the dimensions, all other info about the car is fantasy at this point, so keep things in perspective.
It's good looking car, but in person it looks incomplete. The designer obviously spent far more time designing the front end than the rear. It has planty of detail, creases, curves, and intresting surfaces, while the back section looks like it was rushed just to go on display on time. I talked briefly to the person who designed it (I completely forgot his last name
), and he said it took him about a weekend to design it. Though I'm prone to do such things, ask him if the rear section was done at the very end of that weekend.
Is it an $80,000 design?
IMHO, no it isn't. It looks much like a front engine version of the Ford GT, but without Ford GT's "exotic" proportions. The Cobra concept parked about 30 feet away looks more like an $80,000 car. It doesn't have that "speak to you" feeling J. Mays remarked this new Shelby GT has, but it's a definate head turner away from the autoshow "platform". IMO a car running at that price level should have a little edge to it's looks, which this car doesn't.
It looks great. But it looks great in a Corvette or Ferrari 308 sort of way. Not a Lamborgini, Ferrari F-40, or even Ford GT kind of way.

Re: holy ****! new ford!!!!
great shape...although it doesn't make the statement that the GT-40 (which has no equal) does, it is still very elegant and tasteful...almost italian-looking. The obviously pulled a lot of cues from other cars, like the Mercury Messinger concept, and Aston-Martin...The original Daytona Coupe is another one of the all-time great auto body shapes...
But on another note, I'm growing weary of Ford concepts simply modernizing classics from their past...It shows a lack of original thinking, IMO. Who here remembers the outside-the-box outrageousness of the Ford Indigo Concept?? What will it take for them to return to that design philosophy??

Re: holy ****! new ford!!!!
Well the original Shelby Concept was priced right ar $100,000. If this is the replacement for the previous concept, but with added luxories and more metal, I don't see how it could go down in price. But it shouldn't really go up that much either. So I'm guesing on what I've read in Autoweek, this car should be around $100,000.

Re: holy ****! new ford!!!!
I figure the car will probably make production. What Ford puts forth on this how right now is "vaporware".
I'm interested in what they see as being a 21st century car rather than a smoothing of a 1965 approach.
The Cobra Daytona coupe was a sweet piece, right where it needed to be.
We will see if Fomoco has build it or "buzz" it in mind.
