LOL!!

I was just about to ask about this car. I know Guion and a few other guys were saying that a new Ford Shelby will be shown on the 12th (yesterday). I was thinking of bringing that old thread back up, but saw this.

looks good. Hope it still has the 604hp 6.4L v10 under hood.

Edit; Just read article;
"Best of all, Ford confirms that the engine installed is a V-10, as in the 605-hp Cobra concept. At that concept's introduction, Ford execs said that 700 hp for the V-10 was a distinct possibility, given more Shelby-fication."

Re: holy ****! new ford!!!!

From the article: "The two-seat, front-engined fastback doesn't rest on the GT's haunches - it draws out a teardrop-shaped style all its own that could prove a convincing sell over the Viper or a super Corvette.

Best of all, Ford confirms that the engine installed is a V-10, as in the 605-hp Cobra concept. At that concept's introduction, Ford execs said that 700 hp for the V-10 was a distinct possibility, given more Shelby-fication."

700 hp possible Viper and "super" Corvette better be pretty bad _ss. If the rumors are true that the V-10 will find its way into the last few GT's, then I think it's 100% likely we'll see the V-10 in the GR-1 when it's built. For that matter, it could end up in a few other special vehicles.

beautiful shape, but once again FoMoCo thinks that too much weight is actually a good thing...Even the Cobra Concept was a little portly at 3075 lbs., but how did they manage to add on 900 lbs on a similar frame??

Thumbs up Re: holy ****! new ford!!!!

Much better than the Shelby Cobra roadster concept at NAIAS. I wish they wouldn't use that paint scheme on everything though; it takes away from the distinction of the new car and draws an inital reaction of "front-engined Ford GT."

Autoweek also has a story:

Re: holy ****! new ford!!!!

Maybe the 3900lbs was a typo? I mean how in the world did they add 900lbs to the car while still using the same engine? The number one killer of ford cars is weight. The 04 Cobra would have run with the 04 ZO6 in a straight line if it lost 4 or 500lbs. I can understand why a Mustang GT weighs 3450lbs, similar to a camaro, but not why a Cobra or Shelby (purpose built cars) weigh as much or in many cases a lot more!

Re: holy ****! new ford!!!!

i did read in a story that the body is made of fibreglass, and if the car makes it to full production, it might use composite/CF bodywork...that could shave off at least 100 lbs, imo....

will they price this along with the viper? or will the sky be the limit ($200,000+)??

ADDENDUM
I don't think this will or should be sold as a Ford...For the performance offered, and a potentially astronomical price point, this car screams "aston martin" or "jaguar"...execs from both those companies must be crying foul today, and I'll bet there's been more than one call from Coventry to Dearborn
