And then the soccer moms will all complain they can't see out of it (like they do with the Dodge Magnum, incidentally) and Toyota will pick up another ten points of market share. Not a good plan, I think.

These days when I see or ride in a ~7-8 year old Town & Country and then a 7-8 year old Caravan I really can hardly tell the difference at all.

But I remember back then I always considered the difference to be very noticable and the T&C was 'way nicer'.

Weird.

I wonder if it's the same effect that makes all cars from the 80s look the same... as new cars get better, more differentiated from model to model, and more diverse... old cars get harder and harder to really tell apart.

The driver and front passenger wouldn't have no problem seeing out of it but the kids in the back could have a problem through. I think the beltline on most car is going is going to get higher anyway to meet future side-impact safety standards.

I found this quote towards the bottom interesting

The accelerator pedal also features a kickdown detent that allows the driver to actively control the downshift of the transmission and the vehicle's acceleration at higher speed (a feature known to TorqueFlite users).
Did a minivan really need that? Does any car considering it's all handled by the ECM. While i guess there is a modicum of fun in restoring the feel of opening 4 barrels to EFI by putting in a resistance mechanism, but i can't say i ever really missed it that much, and i was driving a carbed car daily up to 5 years ago.

Rear view will be a problem. If you get a chance, sit in a Magnum sometime and you'll see what I mean. It's not unliveable by any means but it's enough to make timid drivers nervous... and timid drivers buy minivans.

Minivans are cool.

Our '98 Caravan was probably the best damned vehicle I've ever owned.

I'd buy another in a heartbeat - that is, if I could get my wife to drive a minivan again....which she won't.

My mom had an 00 T&C, and I liked it a lot. Its a shame that not only Chrysler, but GM and Ford both lack in the segment they started.

Here's some exciting minivan news

DaimlerChrysler, Volkswagen in minivan

All Reuters NewsDETROIT (Reuters) - DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group and Volkswagen said on Thursday that they have reached an agreement under which the U.S.-based carmaker will manufacture minivans for the German rival.

Production of the Volkswagen minivan, which is based on the next generation Chrysler and Dodge minivan platform, will begin in 2008, the companies said. The vehicle will be sold in the North American market
