A little pricey for what it is but pretty cool nevertheless.

Volkswagen at the Los Angeles Auto Show presented the GX3 – a completely new motorcycle-car crossover described as a “pure driving machine.” VW plans to sell a production version of the vehicle in the United States for $17,000. The GX3 was conceived by the Moonraker team and VW’s Design Center in California, exclusively with the U.S. in mind. With its three wheels and unique design, this Volkswagen “opens up a new driving dimension.” Light, fast, and environmentally friendly, the GX3 shows that conceptually it is much closer to a motorcycle than to a classic type automobile. This two-seater Volkswagen “turns even the daily commute to work into a small trip to freedom, allows you to cruise in the carpool lane, even if you’re driving solo (the GX3 is a motorcycle, after all!) and with its keen handling it opens up completely new horizons for recreational driving.” It only takes 5.7 seconds to go from 0-62.5 mph (100 km/h) and the fuel consumption in the city is estimated to be 46 mpg (5.2 l/100 km). More info and images after the jump…

So it's like an Atom, in some ways, without even remotely close to the same performance (well, acceleration, at least... not sure about handling).
I know the atom is twice the price but anyhow....

The GX3 really needs to be offered in a variety of bright colors w/optional contasting colors to help it stand out.
You could always put a nice bright orange safety flag on the back, just in case

It's a trike, anyway the most impressive thing about it is the 1.25 sustained g's. (that's better than the z06.) Also I just wanted to say I want an ariel atom, that would be such a fun track day car.

Anyone remember/ever heard of the T-Rex? I always thought one of those would be cool as hell, but they are expensive. This VW thing is similarly cool. In fact, if they really build it and sell it here, it would be the only VW to even remotely pique my interest. Their cars are generally over priced piles...(ok, that is a bit harsh, but they are overpriced, and their quality ratings leave a lot to be desired).

If you get hit by a corolla in that thing you're gonna get squished, much less a larger vehicle.

While I think the concept of the GX3 is pretty cool, its price needs to be below $10,000.
This might be a good niche market for the Chinese to enter in the future.

And I'm not sure the Ariel would be so great from a safety standpoint either. It might have taller beams on the sides, but from the front it would be very easy to run up and over one of those too, I think.
Hell, lots of pickups could probably climb right over/into my Miata in a bad wreck...
