GTO news from 2002 POCI convention!
With the G/XP concept car, it kind of makes you wonder if they aren't interested in keeping it instead of just throwing it out.
What is the Buick Park Avenue going to use as its platform once Seville goes Sigma? (Or is it LeSabre?) Are they going to keep that FWD chassis or move to a new one -- next generation W platform on the Impala etc., something bigger, ...?

GOATCRAZY, when they were talking about the New GTO's interior and exterior you said only small interior changes and limited colors. I take that to mean the GTO won't get all the color combo's the Monaro gets. Is that how you took it to mean.
I think the best part of the Monaro is the interior with REAL thick leathered and truly bolstered seats, like from BMW. Not only that but Monaro's can have blue leather seats to match the exterior, red, yellow etc. As well as body colored guages. If GM is smart they will put a GTO emblem on the dash and leave the rest alone, it may be a Monaro in Austrailia but it would look BMW- Audi here!

Just wanted to add to this. The Monaro's interior is like you described: thick well made leather interior. It is easily one of the best made and layed out interiors I've ever been in, especially in a car costing less than $35,000 (CV6's price). It's also my understanding that the colored gauges, & seats will in fact make the trip over here in the GTO.</font>

I agree with 99SilverSS. The whole car is gonna be great! It would be nice if Pontiac dealers could sell the HSV body kits and accessories too. </font>

But just think, they are making money on a car that sells 2500 per year, I doubt they would pass up the chance to sell to a market buying up 20,000 vehicles yearly!
GM's PR machine is working overtime to spin the Monaro/GTO into a real GTO in the general public's perception. Notice that most of the "looky this here is a gen-u-wine GTO" talk is coming from flacks that are paid by GM to say nice things about it.
Why all the spin if it really IS a real GTO?
I also like how they said "oh the designers looked at GTO pictures" Yea right. When? They dont say. When they designed the Monaro? Well no, of course not. And this GTO of ours will be of course still 90 percent plus Monaro when it gets here.
Maybe they looked at pictures of old goats BEFORE they designed the Pontiac nose cap for the Monaro, but maybe they didnt until AFTER. It sure does not LOOK like they had GTO in mind when they designed that nose. I always go by the rule, watch what they do, ignore what they say. And the nose does not look GTO at all.
And also that guy in his speech says something like "we didnt WANT it to look like a GTO". That is funny really. Reminds me of a little kid that falls off his bike and then says "I meant to do that".
He then goes onto say it does not look like a GTO then on purpose cuz "Retro is dead" Thats funny too. GM's same PR dept will be singing the praises of Retro when the SSR is released.
The new issue of High Performance Pontiac Magazine is also chuck full of bought and paid for GTO praise this month. Nothing objective in that rag. Glad now I let my subscription lapse a few months ago and now read it at Wal-Mart.
This PR blitz is an attempt to sway people who dont know better and cant think for themselves.
Its all so sad and a waste really. I know it has alienated me against a nice car. I know the car itself should be just great, and would have sold out all 20,000 copies easily, even if were called a Pinto!
