Hmm, I disagree to a point about comparing the T-Bird to the GTO. First, the T-Bird sold like crazy the first two years it came out. Seriously, if you found one on the lot, you were lucky. Even with dealer markups (which T-Bird doesn't have now), they were selling faster than the dealers could get them, unlike the GTO. Second, the T-Bird doesn't have the same public perception about it that GTO does. The T-Bird looked like the image that most people had of what a T-Bird should be. The GTO does not. JMO, but take it for what it's worth.

Pontiac hasn't done anything at all. Remember awhile back when someone posted a GTO for sale on e-bay, and it turned up to be a dealer who used a Grand Prix VIN to sell a GTO at $43,000 before they even hit the showrooms?
Ford is also working to keep dealers from gouging the upcoming Mustang too. It seems dealers are willing to take Mustang orders locked into as little as $750 over invoice in exchange for a guaranteed sale. Chrysler also seems to be able to keep dealers (at least outside of Hawaii) from gouging as well.

That's 'cause Ford is planning on VOLUME.
On the other hand Pontiac planned 18,000 GTO's....downgraded that to 16,000...and unless dealers start [i]dealing[/]...may not even sell half that.

Even then, many Ford dealers gouged on T-Bird and other new releases. Most were within reason. What Pontiac dealers are doing is a travesty.

now why can Ford and D/C figure this out and not GM. the new Mustang is going to hit big HUGE! and we have nothing to respond to it.
The GTO could of been something as an upscale alternative but it wont be around much longer if Pontiac dosnt treat the GTO like any other car, SELL IT..yes I saw the GTO for 43K on Ebay and a few others, also the markups I have heard around here, the only way the T Bird flew for a while was they sat on the lots of the dealers that marked them to high heaven, but the ones the sold them for MSRP sold. just a few more Ford dealers the Pontiac so it equals more cars.
