GTO is having the same prob the T-Bird has why??..............................
the same reason you can still find 2002 F bodies on dealer show rooms..they mark them up 5-10K
the GTO could have the same success the 300C is having if the DEALERS didnt gouge like a bunch of morons. Thats the problem, even 3K is more than to much..and the ones who buy it are putting them away like they are super rare cars so you dont see them on the street.
RED or anyone that can get to the Pontiac dealers..tell them that its not going well and these mark up are making the GTO a flop...send then the articles..send out a buliten on it to all pontiac dealers...
so sad such an awsome car and no one can buy it cus of the greedy dealers.
maybee when the movie comes out it will give a boost.

Another thing to consider. The Bonneville GXP (Pontiac's most expensive car via MSRP) lists for $35,000. GM is offering $5000 cash back, and a $1000 loyalty bonus. That makes the GXP about $29,000. GTO is about $32,000 with no incentives or rebates, $3,000 over the GXP despite listing for less. To make matter worse, dealer markups to $40 grand make GTO's situation no mystery.
If GM were to sanction dealers who gouge customers by forbiding them to sell more, or make them the last dealers to get the Solstice when it comes out, it would surely help.
I sense a mantra being formed on this board lately. Not that I disagree with it at all, but it just struck me its like somebody handed out talking points last week on the dealer gouging with GTOs.
It's not all dealers. The pontiac dealer here has sold the two that it's had(Yellow and Black) at MSRP AND it's getting two more in July(Silver and Red). Guess what they're going to be sold at? MSRP!!!

I like this idea:

These dealers will make the Solstice a flop too, think about it. they said they want it to come in under the 22K mark? if so then stupid greedy mark up for it is 27K for a 4 banger solstice?? YOU F'in KIDDING ME!!! it will happen.
The thing is the GM should set out a Contract with the dealers for the 05 GTO and possible Judge and have it sold not more than 1000 over MSRP and if doing so you will be left out of the loop.
Its no ones fault but the Pontiac dealers for making the car not wanted. so sad. just like the T-Bird. something could of been done to that car but it tanked just like the GTO.
two nice cars that are needed in America.
Pray for a cheep Chevy soon.
Same thing here , there are 4 pontiac dealers in this area . 2 of them are not gouging and have yet to have one long enuff to even put them out on the floor . The other 2 with "regional adjustment
" 2nd stickers are building a collection of them . Kirks , the one dealer was trying to get 10K over sticker for a auto car
, and speaking of that ......the dealers around just flat out wont stock 6-speed cars , so every GTO Ive seen here has been an auto . That aint helpin either

Too many people are acting like the new GTO is in the same bucket as the 02 LS1 Fbodies. That's not the case either. The GTO is a step up in build quality, suspension sophistication and rear seat room. There's no reason for them to be the (amazing!) performance value the Fbodys were. Nonetheless they are still worth every penny (at sticker anyway
)...
Where I'm at, one local Pontiac Dealer is selling them for MSRP, and has said they've sold everyone that they have had (6-7 I believe). The only problem I've found, and this is just my opinion, is the dealer had a yellow 6-speed with dealer added options that drove up the cost. And it was for stupid stuff like Paint protection and other stuff like that. If it was up to me I'd pass, but at least they're at MSRP.

Sorry, disagree. Those who can afford it ARE finding a way to buy it. Dealers are asked not to do mark-ups by GM IIRC, but in the end they are independent dealers not part of GM. There are dealers in MI selling at or below sticker. Other places, YMMV.

no matter how good the car is GM built the car for 32K why should a dealer mark it up 8K for what??? the GTO is not a 40K car. and if you checked the 2002 SS and T/A collector editions how much were they?? 32K so I see no diffrence..EXCEPT in the dealers, GM can do something about it. GM owns the cars and can distribute to dealers that help GM make money not line the pockets of greedy owners of pontiac dealers..those people are making the GTO a slaes flop.
GM like said should find out who is selling the GTO's the best and give them the Solstice first..that will change the minds of greedy dealers when they get their first solstice 5 months after the release. remember the Pontiac name is owned by GM they have the final say on how to sell their cars..as much as the dealers want to think they can do what they want....just goes to show you in the sales figures...
The below came to me in an Automotive News headline. Unortunately, I don't have a paid subscription so I couldn't read the whole article but the teaser says a lot...
The GTO never did get me excited. As a Trans Am owner and fan for more than 30 years, I never considered it as an option to step up to since the Firebird is gone.
Don't get me wrong, I think Lutz did a great thing by getting a car into the lineup as quickly is it happened but in the end, I'm still waiting for something truly exciting. And, I think whatever it is, it should be built in North America!
About the Solstice and how gouging might kill it too, I don't think that will happen. That car is unique and exciting enough that once the dealers stop drooling all over their polyester suits, the lots will fill up and they'll be glad just to start moving them. I saw the same thing happen at Nissan dealers when most of them upped the sticker price of a 350Z by 3 or 4k when they first came out. I still laugh everyday when I pass the dealer lot on my way to work.
I have no love lost for most dealerships. I can't wait until buying a car direct from the manufacturer over the Internet is mainstream.
Dull styling, price hobble sales of GTO
The Pontiac GTO, a pet project of General Motors product czar Robert Lutz, is off to a slow start. Dealers say the GTO - touted as a halo car for Pontiac - suffers from bland styling, a high sticker price and no incentives. So far this year, Pontiac has sold just 2,451 units. Discounting seasonal differences, that amounts to an annualized rate of 7,300 units - well below Pontiac's 16,000-unit target.

I fear that when dealers hear about the "limited" production run of the Solstice, it too will be hit hard by dealers.
If anyone, from GM or Red, is reading this, I will be glad to go around to local dealers and look at who is charging over MSRP and report back to you via email or whatever. I will to this free of charge!
Please, if you really want me to do this, email me at ALXV74@aol.com. I will be more then happy to report this back to you. Do whatever your want with the info, be it delaying or preventing certain dealers from getting future products.

Hmm, I disagree to a point about comparing the T-Bird to the GTO. First, the T-Bird sold like crazy the first two years it came out. Seriously, if you found one on the lot, you were lucky. Even with dealer markups (which T-Bird doesn't have now), they were selling faster than the dealers could get them, unlike the GTO. Second, the T-Bird doesn't have the same public perception about it that GTO does. The T-Bird looked like the image that most people had of what a T-Bird should be. The GTO does not. JMO, but take it for what it's worth.
