That was the case with me. Best ET was 13.3 @ 105.9. Best MPH was 107.1 (I forget the ET on that one). BTW, this was my completely stock 2000 Z28, including RS-As. I didn't even have the cutout at the time. Sucks if a modded GT500 can't significantly beat that MPH.

Unless these numbers turn out to be exceptionally low, I agree that a 03/04 Cobra is the way to go when you start modding. The GT500 would be nice if you want to keep the warrenty, but with that out the window it'd be hard to justify the extra $20,000...

We're talking about a $40,000+ +, supercharged, 500 hp car, with several thousand dollars in unspecified mods done in coordination with several Mustang tuning companies.

Gee, maybe if we could just add another 100 hp or so, it's two ton mass wouldn't matter anymore. But then, of course, it would get no traction, so it would need dedicated slicks instead of drag radials.

But then again with all that power and all that weight and all that traction.....you'd better chase it down the quarter mile with a magnet and a shovel to pick up all the driveline pieces it will grenade.

Wow, I can't believe the GT500 isn't putting down better times. I knew it wouldn't stand much of a chance against the Vette's, but the times these cars are putting down stock just don't make sense. I really hope Ford can make this better, because the better the Mustang is, the better the Camaro has to be.

Wow, those engineers at Ford must have worked really hard to make a 500 hp car that slow

I think Ford's engineers did just what they wanted. They built a unique piece of automotive history. It's a little unfair to think that lightning would strike twice and they'd have another terminator on their hands. If you want to go the pulley-tune-exhaust route, you're much better off with a '03 or '04.

I just hope that GM takes a serious look at the GT500 and realizes that no matter what, the new Camaro can be nowhere near that heavy. I don't care if they make a 600 hp "GT500 killer" for 40k...If it's as heavy as the GT500 I will have zero interest in it...The GT500 is really a sorry excuse for an American performance car

Re: GT500 with lots of mods goes 11.81...

They added , what ....realistically 100 hp , possibly less than that if the 03-04's were makin a little more than rated -and- they also added 255 lbs . What do u expect ? It isnt gonna be a miracle over the 03-04 . I also do not think that shop's time represent the cars full potential . There are just to many factors to consider to decifer that last statement , so I will not go there .
I dont know how the the 5.4's powerband compares to the 4.6 , but the hot ticket in the 03-04's seems to have been 4.30 gears . Wait till the smaller pulleys , meth/water injection(w/tuning) and heat exhanger mods start happening ....you think they arent gonna make stupid big gains on those 3 minor in-expenisve mods , you would seriously be kidding yourself .

A cheap simple pulley swap , a $300 snow performance water injection kit and a little laptop time and Id about garantee that 11.81 would squirt into the 10's . And you still have yourself a bolt-on new car that drives and idles as good as stock . Not a miracle , but it isnt to bad either .

Look outside the box

Re: GT500 with lots of mods goes 11.81...

Evan Smith ran his time while only being allowed a few runs on a Michigan track instead of his usual east coast track and without the ability to play with things or do free mods, and he still ran 12.2's with it. When it is brought to the east coast and they get to play with it, better times will result. This car was just released, the '03's were not getting great numbers when they first came out either. Hell, these cars are not even broken in yet. As for the cracks on weight, looks like the debate is on whether the new camaro is going to be a pig in top dog form:

Re: GT500 with lots of mods goes 11.81...

So, here's my dream...

A basic, hardtop, cloth seated, $36,000 Z28 Camaro. Use the LS7/LS9/whatever we call it in 2010. 500HP. 500 lb/ft of torque. 3,700 lbs max??

Yummy That would be, what, 300-400 lbs less than the GT500? I can't imagine a 500hp Camaro weighing less than that because of the beefed up driveline and chassis requirements. If you figure that we'll be LUCKY if the regular V8 weighs 3,500 lbs, I see 3,700 lbs minimally for a 500hp Camaro...

Let us pray

And Evan Smith ALSO ran an 11.97 @ 118 mph in a brand new '04 Z06 with nothing but DR's on it. What's that, oh yeah, right, a 405 HP car to a 500 HP car!!! But ok, we'll keep believing that the weight isn't an issue and it'll run better once it's broken in.

It runs low 13's @ 107 mph stock?? I guess that means my car should beat the "amazing" new GT500 too?! Wait 'til I start running 12's ... it'll never catch me!!

Oh... My... God...

You have got to be a world-class, A#1 JACKASS FOOL to buy a GT500 for $20,000 MORE than a Z06 goes for.

Hell, I'm pretty sure you'd have to be a fool to buy one for $20,000 LESS than a Z06 goes for.

I don't know Jason, 3,700 lbs is kind of a turn off for me.

Indeed. For the car Jason described - i.e. a stripper, I'd hope to see something more like 3500 lbs (taking into account this is a production car that has to meet the crash regulations of the day and that GM can't throw exotic materials at the weight problem *and* still make the car affordable).
