Got up close and personal with an XLR yesterday

A friend of mine's neighbor here in Nashville works for GM as a supplier reconcilliation engineer or something...he takes pre production stuff to the suppliers to work out small details before cars are released for final production.

He has an XLR right now, something about the power top mechanism he has to have the supplier work on. Anyway I got to look it over top to bottom yesterday, we started it up, ran the top up and down, looked under the hood. VERY nice car, fit and finish was, IMO superb, but he was pointing out all sorts of minor details like fitment of body panels that were off 2mm that needed work.

Said he would have a C6 in 3 months or so and would give us a holler when we can come over and look at it. The trippy thing is he doesn't have a garage, the car is just sitting in the driveway, LOL. Here he is with a car you can't buy yet just sitting out there.

Anyway, I was looking at it with an eye to C6 cues. Could not really see much...C6 style exhaust with the mufflers right in front of the tailpipes rather than off to the sides like the C5. Brakes looked like standard C5 stuff front and rear ( I could visually compare to my TA which has C5 front brakes). Calipes say XLR on them however

Front and rear wheels were 18" I wonder if C6 will get that or keep 17" fronts. I personally thought the 18" front and larger diameter tire looked a little funky/bulky.

Very Nice! Do you have a camera for when that C6 comes home?

No, I wasn't actually planning on seeing the XLR. My buddy had told me about it a few days ago and I was dropping him off after attending a car show and we saw the car and saw the guy was home so we stopped to see it.

I don't think the guy will get his hands on a C6 until after the NAIAS debut in January, so him saying 3 mos. is probably optimistic. They're not going to let him have a C6 to drive around on public roads at least until after the debut.

He has seen the C6 briefly in person and verified the deletion of pop up headlights. He has not seen the photos of the white prototypes driving around but from talking to him it seems that is the real C6.

Cool Chris. I saw where Chris M posted about his neighbor having the car. Didnt know you got a little inside info on the c6 though. I think that rocks they are finnaly not going to have pop up headlights on the c6. IMO it will look much better!!
