Colorado/Canyon Q's

I posted on another topic about a Colorado SS being made possible, except it would probably use a 5.3 or 4.8 Vortec, since the I6 doesn't fit; and a turbo I5 would be expensive.

Question is, does the Vortec 53 and 4800's fit into the truck's engine bay? If GM really made these trucks to battle Dodge's Dakota, it needs to make either engine available.

The I5 is taller and longer than a 5.3 or 4.8 so I don't see why one of those V8s would not fit.

If they do fit, then why not have them as an option and reallt trump the competition? The only reason i can think of is that they don't want a V8 Colorado stealing sales from the Silverado?
