03 Mustang WB: 101.3"
03 Accord Cp WB: 105.1"
It was said that the concept's Wheelbase was longer than the mustang, and close to the Accord.

Ya, I'm so giddy right now to have something new and exciting to sink our teeth into that I am not obsessing on the fact that the phrase "retro looking" has been mentioned... :blah: :blah: :blah:

I wouldn't even mind if they put in a 3rd door like the Saturn just to make it more practical...a smaller door so you can't call it a true 4 door but more of just an access point.

LOL. But you can rest easy in the fact that it seems that even thought the car will be heavy with retro cues, its not going to be a full on retro like the Mustang is going to be. I liked the SS since I first saw it with the exception of its total length. Shrinking it to a proper 2+2 would get the size and weight down and would probably give a little better proportion. Granted I'd like some sort of spoiler back there too...2nd gen-ish maybe, but not too tall.

As far as a 3rd door... I see the idea, but I'd hate to see that ungly body seem... it just ruins the lines of the car, and at least in the case of the Saturn, makes for a clunky C-Pillar (or B-pillar as the case may be)
Good point about the seam, but if you're going to have quarter windows and a back seat it is a way to keep the front doors from being so darned long and heavy.
Most of what I don't like in the SS concept is in the back half. I 'd like to see a little more of a true rear deck and perhaps keep the hatch rather than a trunk (more total cargo volume in a 2+2 that way), just look at the Mustang's shallow and relatively useless trunk for a comparo. I don't care for the tail much at all either, and I personally just don't see much chevelle in it to be honest. The whole car screams 2nd gen crossbred with C3.

If this Camaro shares its structure with the upcoming Cadillac coupe, I would imagine that it would be a platform capable of coming in various sizes and lengths. The logic I'm using is that I don't see Cadillac using a structure that has 2+2 seating. Luxury coupes need to have a fullsize back seat. This could also mean that the Camaro would not have a 2+2 to begin with and that it will have a larger rear seat. Since this platform is likely not to be Solstice based I would assume that it is a version of the "sigma-V car" hybrid structure thats been speculated on. If the Caddy coupe is connected to this "Camaro" it seems strange that Caddy wouldn't just use the complete Sigma platform as a starting point for a coupe.

So is it then fair to say that this news has caught some of you "insider" guys with your proverbial pants down?
Simply meaning you guys didn't really see this coming? If this indeed pans out to be accurate, then GM's successfully brought the program along a lot further than we imagined and did it under the radar of all the rumor mills. I mean, until I read this I didn't think there was even a budget.
If there's a budget then there has to be some basic engineering done...broad based stuff...a business case, etc. etc.
How will a debut at NAIAS conflict with the 2005 CAW contract hush hush deal, if at all?

I have been wondering the past couple of years that how suddendly a two-door coupe can also be a four-door coupe...
If you are going to build a two-door coupe, it needs to be a two-door coupe, nothing more. No more doors needed, no matter how small they are. Especially if we are talking about a sports car!

Seems like at least Ford thinks the Mustang doesn't need no more than two doors. And the Mustang is counted as a sports coupe, I think...

If you are going "retro", the additional doors were not needed back then, either!
Sure the cars were bigger, but I'm sure you get my point.

Well, the only thing I remember is that there were a number of vehicles in development around the mid-lux platform.
Also, if Camaro is returning to pony car roots then why are they using SS in a styling clinic. I mean the car is really big!! Why would they want to compare a car that size with accord and mustang in the clinic?
Are they doing that because of money? Didn't have another styling concept to show? I was under the impression that GTO wouldn't be that large a car......

One thing to remember when looking at concept cars: look at the styling idea, NOT the car verbatum! Solstice was a cobbled together J-car, the current Intrepid was a hybrid as a concept, Nomad was a Camaro underneath, Belair was a Trailblazer (though a extremely well finished concept) and of course, the SS was a big Corvette based sedan.
Just because the SS was huge, the actual car it's design was based on is likely to be very different. Latest example: The full sized Ford 427 concept that will become the Mazda 626 sized Ford Futura, or last year's continental concept that's going to be the Lincoln LS' redesigned exterior year after next.
Supertim, if that indeed is the direction of the next Camaro, I'm wondering how the T-tops are going to come into play myself.
