GM RWD bits and pieces. All facts. No speculation.
1. GTO VIN (courtesy of GTOalley): 6G12X14F#3L******
6G1 = GMH
2 = V2 series
X14 = GTO and CV8 (X = Calais spec/top of the line, 14 = coupe)
F = Gen III 5.7/350 chev
# = any number between 1 - 9, application unknown
3 = 2003
L = Elizabeth plant
****** = sequence number
2. GTO will be a part of GM's new line of full sized and performance cars due out over 2007-2007.
3. GTO will be a part of a line of performance cars that will include Chevrolet & Holden, in addition to Pontiac.
4. The cars, though developed by Holden, will use some Sigma components.
5. GM's Full size RWD cars WILL NOT be the immediate replacement for GM's "W" based cars. It is possible there may be a phase over, which will have both cars in the showroom at the same time.
6. A team was formed late last year from both Holden and GM North America whose job was to create business cases for various vehicles Holden produces (including the UTE) for production and or sale in the US.
7. Holden and GM-North America will jointly operate a plant in North America that will be based (in operating principle) to Holden's operation in Australia (a wide range of vehicles based on a single basic design) starting no later than 2007.
8. The Chevelle rumor didn't start with any anything out of GM. It came from an idea from a enthusiast magazine.
9. Monte Carlo's future isn't certain beyond 2005.
10. Of the Performance cars GM is making, based on their RWD Full Size/Performance car structure, the GTO will likely be the quickest and each model will have their own style & personality, despite having identical inner structures & components.
This part is educated speculation only based on tidbits I came across, and some developments (including dano's styling clinic) that's happened since March:
1. GM's performance chassis not only includes GTO & Monaro, but also Camaro and a Cadillac as well.
2. Though Chevrolet traditionally has not debuted new Camaros or Corvettes before introduction, next year will be very different.
3. Camaro was never actually "in trouble", it simply needed a chassis to be placed on. The 5th gen chassis was picked before the Solstice became a serious production likelihood.
I'll post more later.

The 5th Gen's chassis has already been chosen???
Verrrrry interesting! (And since that means they must be pretty far along, verrrrrry good news!)
I STILL say we won't see it until January 2005 however!

Branden alreaddy stated we would hear something by August most likely regarding the Camaro...
Whats up w/ the Monte, is it done after 2005 or do you think it'll be on the new full size performance chassis?

If the current GTO is only a 3 year car or maybe 4 years at most its going to be one rare ride.
It will be interesting if a new Camaro appears for the 2007 model year and if the next GTO will be brought out a year earlier or a year later then the next Camaro. I would suspect that the the Next GTO would launch as 2008 model since and 2006 MY introduction just seems too early and I dont think GM would launch a GTO and Camaro the same year when GM could continue to make the current GTO in Australia for one extra year. Considering that the initial demand for the next Camaro will be huge, GM could concentrate on meeting production quotas and focus on keeping quality up by holding off on the next-GTO for an extra year.
I really think that the current Monte Carlo will be replaced by a coupe and convertible variation of the 2006 Impala sedan.
