GM to replace Wayne Cherry

GM designer Wayne Cherry will be retiring soon (he was extended when Lutz got aboard) and the leading candidate to replace him is Ed Welburn (head designer of Chevy's SSR and Wayne's #2 man).

But also being considered is Tom Gale (THE guy responsible for Chrysler's designs from the 1st Viper to the PT Cruiser).

Bryan Nesbitt is considered too young (at 34) to head the design studio, and may end up at Opel.

I really don't see Nesbitt going to Opel.

He's an american style, down to earth type of guy. He fits in at Chevrolet, and i believe thats where he is going to stay.

I see Nesbitt staying at Chevy too. He's really abit young to be design chief.

Tom Gale would be an interesting pick...of course their may be some friction between Tom and 'ole Maximum Bob.

My bet's on Welburn.

Possibly (didn't those two have it out a few times towards the end of Lutz's tenure at Chrysler?), but I honestly think they're a lot closer from a design-philosophy standpoint than anyone else.

Lutz seems to be a type of person who values talent more than personal grudges. If Gale doesn't get the position, I'm sure it won't be because of friction between the 2.

Ya, I was a bit surprised when John Cafaro's name wasn't at least mentioned as well.

He has quite a few success stories under his belt, and he's been there a lot longer than Nesbitt.

The C5 and the current line of trucks. All have been wildly successful I think.
