GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO
Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO
I have a question if anyone would happen to know. Is the next gen GTO stil slated for roughly 18k units a year? Or is Pontiac going to be allowed to mass produce as many units as it can sell? Limiting it to only 18k units a year to me isn't a smart business case. Does anyone have a definitive answer, or is it too early to say?

I dunno...nowhere in that article does Jim say the GTO will be built on Zeta or Austrailia. He just says they are working on a new one based on a global architecture. I think the author may have took some liberties with this article.

People get so darn testy around here. Sit back, relax, listen to Red and some others, and let's see what GM has for us in January at NAIAS. Sheesh!

Why would GM announce they are developing a car that has an annual market of 18,000 cars when a potential market of 75,000-100,000 annual buyers has been asking for a Camaro for years?
Would I like a new GTO? Sure. It'll make some people happy (probably about 18,000 annually). Does a GTO automatically mean no Camaro? No. But my point is why are they working on this car, when a better selling, higher volume, more recognized car is languishing.
Don't they want to grow market share? Don't they want to get some positive press for a change?

The knock on it has always been that it was too over-the-top for production.
Wouldn't a concept new GTO and Camaro at the same show be sweet?

Seriously, I doubt any automaker will go so far as to tell us all exactly when a new car is coming, and the specifics of it. At least, I don't remember anyone saying as much.

and I could ask Christie Brinkley or Sandy Bullock for a date............
---I don't mean to be a wisenheimer, but you really need to look at the various posts over the past year.
Note the reference to CAW..............

It's called 'selective listening'.......don't believe everything the press tells you. As I've said before, we NEVER invite the press to a product planning meeting........

Lets be honest and let us forget about Camaro and product for the moment. GM is not transparent and lacks real communication as to the problems they are up against. GM imploded in the mid 80's and have been putting band aids on the orgainization in hopes that their fortunes will change. It has not worked. For that reason the bad press is warranted. Gm has not outlined what the fixes are or how they are going to be addresed.
Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO
This makes me happy for so many reasons.
Number one, first and foremost, this is the first product commitment we've seen to the Pontiac brand beyond the 2006 model year release of the Solstice, Torrent, and G6 variants. As Jason E's thread from a couple of weeks back shows, there was, and still is, some serious cause for concern regarding Pontiac's future. A new GTO in the showroom would provide Pontiac with a strong pulse.
Number two, contrary to what some people here like to insist, what's good for GTO is IMO good for Camaro. About a month ago, most of us thought RWD was dead at GM, this proves a committment to the rwd performance coupe.
Number three, IT'S A FREAKING GTO! Just thinking of a brand new GTO with some real Pontiac lines has me salivating. Just imagine how great this car could be. I definitely have to get to NAIAS this year - it could be one to remember.
Having said all that, I will not get my hopes up yet (although clearly I have) so that I won't be crushed if GM canceled this (although clearly I would be).

I'm wondering if there will be a 1 year gap in production between the current model and the new one. The dates used in this article would indicate there may not be an official 2007 GTO.
