Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO

Emissions are the real reason the Monaro is being stopped. Holden didn't want to spend the $$$ to get the LS1 in the Monaro up to the Euro III emissions requirements that come into force 1/1/2006 in Australia. BUT LS2 equipped versions already meet Euro III requirements so they will continue. The Euro III emissions requirements really come at a bad time for Holden, and I believe they would have been much happier if the date that Euro III came in was a year later (once the VE commy is released.)

So GM validated the LS2 for the GTO, but not for the Monaro? Cost prohibitive to test to Aussie standards? What am I missing?

Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO

Hundreds of thousands of people begged gm for a new Camaro since before GTO ever came out.

GM is selling GTO's at < 18,000 a year volume.

GM is giving us a GTO.

It will be out in 2008.

Who the hell is running this company, anyway?

no one actually runs it, it is a self-supporting bureaucracy that constantly feeds upon itself.

First read this.

The 'Monaro' will continue under the HSV GTO Coupe in Australia as it uses the LS2. The LS2 will be used in future Holdens and it was already designed to meet Euro III standards. It simply isn't worth it for Holden to modify/validate the LS1 to Euro III specs for the Monaro if they will only sell 1500 cars before they would normally pull the plug. Holden will validate the LS1 to Euro III spec for other higher volume sellers or vehicles that will remain in production once the VE Commodore is released. Holden can justify the spending on these vehicles, but the Monaro in Australia just doesn't have the volume to make it worthwhile.

Edit #2: BTW, Holden promised HSV exclusive use of the LS2 (at least until Zeta anyway) which is why Holden wont put it in the Monaro.

Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO

Great news!!

It's nice to hear company "spokespeople" able to talk about a future product out in the open for a change... Even if it's just to say that something is coming.

It's will be nice when al the smoke clears for Camaro as well.

I see it will probally be built in Australia still. I wonder what expectations are for projected sales. I would think it would not be very profitable to import the GTO if it will have projected sales as the current version.

Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO

So the GTO will be a Zeta (VE)...or Torana (Beta?) based?

Perhaps this will help explain.....

Research Breakthrough
[An entertaining item making the rounds in cyberspace]
Investigators at a major research institution have recently discovered the heaviest element known to science. This startling new discovery has been tentatively named Administratium (Ad).
This new element has no protons or electrons, thus having an atomic number of 0. It does, however, have 1 neutron, 125 assistant neutrons, 75 vice neutrons, and 111 assistant vice neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by a force called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. Since it has no electrons, Administratium is inert. However, it can be detected as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. According to the discoverers, a minute amount of Administratium causes one reaction to take more than four days to complete when it would normally take less than a second.
Administratium has a normal half-life of approximately three years; it does not decay but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons, vice neutrons, and assistant vice neutrons exchange places. In fact, an Administratium sample’s mass will actually increase over time, since with each reorganization some of the morons inevitably become neutrons, forming new isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to speculate that Administratium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as the “critical morass.”

What's driving you crazy?

How many people on this board actually work for GM and have an idea of what the issues are behind the Camaro name and what's going on?

It's called 'selective listening'.......don't believe everything the press tells you. As I've said before, we NEVER invite the press to a product planning meeting........
