GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO
Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO
Reading between the lines...
1. The GTO and Camaro are going to be sister vehicles
2. They may or may not come out the same year (both in CY2008 is my guess)
3. When something can be said, it will be said
4. There is still a possibility that it can all come crashing down
I am at the very least a little worried about how much this all may rely on the CAW talks...

It's called 'selective listening'.......don't believe everything the press tells you. As I've said before, we NEVER invite the press to a product planning meeting........

Red,
You most have infinite patience. I know i would have wanted to shot some of the screename here. LOL... anyway... is good news that they will design the GTO to be more aggressive. That's what it is supposed to be any ways.
So would this new RWD plattorm could be used to other GM cars that are sold in the US? Maybe a RWD Chevy Coupe?

People get so darn testy around here. Sit back, relax, listen to Red and some others, and let's see what GM has for us in January at NAIAS. Sheesh!

Depends on whether you really think the GTO will be built in Australia and the Camaro will really be built in NA. Remains to be seen I guess.

I believe we'll see a Chevrolet RWD performance coupe alot sooner than we'll see a next gen GTO.
But it's still good to see Pontiac talking about a next gen GTO

Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO
Glad to finally see GTO's 1 year extention in print. Guess my reputation lives another day.
Although it's all but certain that there will be another GTO, I haven't been able to pin down alot on it beyond the fact that Holden is strong-arming for another coupe along the lines of Monaro.
I have doubts about the year mentioned in the article, unless they mean 2008 calendar year, and not model year. Holden won't have full capacity of their factory to make Zetas till the VZ tooling is removed & replaced.
This means 2 possibilities (assuming the coupes are made in Australia):
1. The VE body coupes won't be out till 2009 model year after the VZ tolling is removed.
2. The V body tooling stays, and the line is used for a rebodied coupe and UTE, which could be done by 2008. This would mean whatever is being set up in Korea and China is Zeta based.
However, these open up a whole can of questions:
a) Chevrolet is/was suppose to get a version of the GTO. Holden can't make the volume to support a Chevrolet version. Is Chevrolet's big coupe cancelled?
b) If the GTO is simply rebodied, does this mean it's just temporary till the new NA-RWD chassis comes online?
c) If the article is spot on, and the next GTO is on Zeta and made in Oz, does this mean that there will be 2 simular sized large RWD coupes built on different chassis on sale in the US by the end of the dacade?
Anyone with insite, drop me a line.
By the way, none of this has anything to do with a certain Mustang competitor, since Holden has zilch to do with anything like that.... just in case anyone was thinking that.

"General Motors Corp. will stop building the Australian version of its Pontiac GTO performance coupe later this year, but the U.S. model will remain in production at least through the 2006 model year, and an all-new model is in the works, a Pontiac spokesman said."
That says "through model year 2006." Original contract was for three years (2004, 2005, & 2006). Where's the extension?
Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO
I'm told two things by my friend at the GM tech center.
1. There will be a 2007 GTO on the current platform.
2. There is a good possibility that the next gen GTO will be shown at the 2006 NAIAS.
I believe this to be true.
Also Pontiac may show a concept car to replace the Sunfire at NAIAS.

Re: GM plans all-new Pontiac GTO
Hey Nik, I was just reading your post over at ls1gto. I know what the Woodward GTO looks like, but am unfamiliar with the '99 concept. Do you have a link by chance?
If the Camaro is not out by CY '07, I may try and pick up a left over GTO. I love the ride of that car, and the interior is simply awesome. Plus, a new shifter is only ~$200 right?(my only real complaint about the cars I have driven).
