Gen V 5.3L V8 = 355HP

Re: Gen V 5.3L V8 = 355HP
Sounds good to me.
I also think the 5.3 was conservative for efficiency reasons, while the 6.2 was tuned more towards higher output. Also keep in mind that the 6.2 has AFM meaning it is probably closer in design to the 400hp L99. Now that GM has figured out how to get good power with AFM we should also see a pretty good power increase from the new 6.2.

If you go to Chevrolet.com and look at the new Corvete and look at the LT1 it advertises a "trio of features" as standard on the new LT1; VVT, DI, and the dreaded AFM.

There's also a chance that the AFM does still affect output and GM will come out with a new successor to the LS7, without AFM, and even more power.

I've been hoping for a truck version of the LS7 minus the Titanium parts since it was introduced. That would let us forgive GM for canceling the 8.1L Big Block.
Anybody going to miss the Vortec name for the truck engines?

When comparing the new 5.3 to the Ford 5.0, one has to remember that the 5.0 does not have DI yet. Thus, when they upgrade the engine, it will see pretty good FI increases.
However, for now, the 5.3 one-ups the 5.0.

Frankly though I'd rather see a tall deck coyote that can at least displace another liter or so.
