G6, Grand Am replacement details
Could have added this to the spy pic thread...

G6 is expected to be the name of the Pontiac sedan that replaces the Grand Am in the 2005 model year.
Pontiac will show the car and announce the name next month at the dealer meeting in Las Vegas. The car will be unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January and go on sale late next year.
Pontiac-GMC General Manager Lynn Myers said the G6 name is at the top of the list.
"It seemed to work pretty well on the concept," said Myers, who was interviewed at a Chevrolet and GMC event here.
Pontiac unveiled the G6 concept, a sleek all-wheel-drive sedan with a high-horsepower V-6, at the Detroit auto show last January.
Pontiac is attempting to create a new image for the model that replaces the Grand Am. Today's Grand Am is perceived as a four-cylinder budget sedan with sales stimulated by high rebates.
The marketing focus for the Pontiac G6 will be on performance, tied to "really strong six-cylinder engines. We'll introduce a four-cylinder later on," Myers said.
The 2005 Pontiac will be built off GM's global front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform. That platform is shared with the 2003 Saab 9-3, 2003 Opel Vectra and the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu sedan and Malibu Maxx five-door hatchback.
Pontiac will launch the G6 sedan in the fourth quarter of 2004, followed a few months later by the G6 coupe. A hardtop convertible is scheduled for the 2006 model year.
Myers said the Grand Am GT coupe will be built until late in 2004 and sold primarily as a fleet vehicle.

If so, I think it'd be fair to bet on them doing the G6's....

Does anyone know if the same supplier build's the XLR's convertible hardtop and the SSr's?

And then there'd be the question of if they could do it on a mass-produced car like the G6 and affordably. The fancy top seems to be one of the big reasons the SSR price ballooned so much.

However, even on a Grand Am / G6 , you would think that the volume wouldn't be astronomical on a convertible hardtop... but I guess that's hard to say.
There's also been a lot of rumors of the G6 offering AWD... if AWD and the vert hardtop were offered together, I think we are building a lot into the MSRP of that model.
A GM employee told me back when I still worked at the dealer that IF a convertible AWD model came out, epxect it to go for around $32k...
Pricey? Consider what you get, and compare it to say a Sebring Limited...not so bad.
I WAS informed by a GM employee over on grandamgt.com when I posted for the next gen Grand Am I wanted a "6 speed coupe with a sunroof and 250hp for $25,000" that I would be "pleasantly surprised for 2005"
That made me happy
Still won't happen for me anyways...until I know for sure there is no 5th gen. And even then, might buy an IROC anyways

Before the GTO, it looked like the new GA/G6 was going to be Pontiac's performance flagship. New chassis, AWD, new blown or turbo'd V6's. They were talking that the top model may have approached 300 hp.
Now with the GTO.....I wonder what Pontiacs' strategy will be.
