A funny thing has happened with the Trailblazer and it's I6..

I remember when it first came out GM was worried it would be hard to covine peopel that the Atlas I6 was more powerful than any V6 or V8 in it's class because people associated I6's with 25 year old trucks.

Funny how things work, because since I got my Trailblazer people will come up to me knowing zero about the car and be like "Ohhh is that the new Trailblazer with the straight 6?" in like awe of it. It's funny how things turn out.

I'm glad you like your new car but why is this 'funny' or 'worth starting a topic over'?

They built a new engine and marketed it.

Because it shows GM marketed the truck correctly and such.....they were worried it would be looked down on. It is relevent because people will probaly look down on the Colordo for having an I5...though it is better than the competitions V6.
I have already heard people mumbling about it. Either way...you are being a bit touchy huh?

Damn, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was news on the I6 or maybe even the TT I6.

I've always liked inline six cylinders, myself. I'd kind of like to eventually restore my dad's '77 Chevy Pickup (with a 250 I6), and possibly figure out a way to install the Atlas I6.

BMW doesn't seem to have much of an image problem from I6's...

neither did Toyota with the Supra

I would think that most consumers wouldn't really know the difference between a V6 and I6, nor would they care, they just know that it has 6 cyl. and puts out 275HP.

YEah, it kinda makes ya wonder how people would've reacted if GM would've done some marketing of the LT1/LS1/F-body...

They did a good job of marketing the I6. It's their DOHC and variable valve-timing "engineering marvel." Whenever they're interested in doing so (high profit margin trucks), they can get the word out that their stuff is great.

I like to remind my dad as often as possible that his $31,000 company car TrailBlazer will annihilate mom's new $40,000 239hp V8 Exploder (pun fully intended)...

Then he reminds me his '02 Formula can kill me...and I shut up. But I do have mods

Just as an aside Branden ... have you had an extended ride in the passenger side yet!?! Figured out where to put your left leg I guess that would be the other benefit of the I6.

I'll (and my wife) will take the faux cat hump anyday.

Another soul lost to the SUV crowd.

Kinda reminds you of that movie "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers", doesn't it?

Yea, funny - GM built a decent engine, marketed the **** out of it (both in mainstream mags and commerical/industry publications), and wrapped it in a package that's somewhat on-par with the rest of the vehicles in its class, while offering it as the only powertrain option. Oh, and let's not forget that the I6 has a very long and proud tradition of being a decent engine configuration, especially in trucks. I guess I fail to see the surprise or humor here, although I guess it is a nice change of pace to see GM simultanously successful on both the engineering and marketing fronts.
