Heh, I thought about a Z06 in three years, but that idea just evaporated with thoughts of a Shelby in one year

I'd bet $40K minimum. Anything under that and I'll be impressed.

Re: full cobra pics

Chalk one more up on the board for the people running out of the Camaro room and straight to the ford dealership. 2008 will be the perfect time to buy a 2007 Cobra for around a sticker of sub-$40,000. I said it before and I'll say it again, if GM doesn't have anything decent out by 2008 when I graduate from school, then I'm going straight to the Ford Dealership and I'm not looking back. There's no way in hell I'm waiting until 2009 or 2010. There will always be fond memories of my 94 Camaro, but I'm not gonna feel bad when I start that Cobra up for the first time.

We'll see but looking at what changes this car has from the 05 GT compared to the changes the 03/04 Cobra had from the GTs of that year it's a lot less.
And the differences cost wise IMO likely wouldn't be THAT much.

Things that will be different will be...

appearance package
wheels
stripes(might be an option anyway)
the engine(a big difference but it's not like it's overly exotic. It's just a Ford V8 with 4v heads and a big honkin supercharger and it will even be using an iron block unlike the aluminum block).
a few interior dress up items like different gauges.

The stuff that will stay the same is that solid axle rear end which if you look at the 03/04 Cobra the things that would really add to the price on that car are the supercharged 4.6 and the IRS. No IRS=lower price.
I could definately see this being in the 36k price range.

Bwah...forgot about the solid rear axel staying...I guess that could be as high as a few grand right there.

Re: full cobra pics

Well, at first I liked the look/performance of the cobra. Now I think it is just a scam to have the shelby name on the back of it. I'm sure it will sell some more cars just because of the tie to the old shelby cars of the '60s. But what does it actually have to do with shelby? Nothing I can see, other than the emblem and stickers. I think that is retarded. And then it's not enough of a change from the regular stang. The hood doesn't do enough for me, i think. But what diffeence does it make, they arent making this car to apeal to a 23 year old who can't afford one.

Re: full cobra pics

I never thought I would say this about a Ford but...........that is a cool car.

I have never owned a Ford before, and didn't think I ever would and yet I would totally consider that as my next performance option.

Way to to Ford!

Re: full cobra pics

I like the car.

Markups will hurt it at first though. I see a sticker of right at 40k though.

But for that price it is a heck of a car.

The hp rumors are to have this car near 500hp. They will probably rate it from the factory between 450-475 though. I like how the specs on the ford media page said, "Horsepower more than 450".

Where else can you get a 450-500hp car for around 40k, that doesn't weight a ton?

Ford did a good job with this car.

agreed...with all the excitement right now, I think the best price anyone can hope for is $39,999.95, not counting the fuel consumption tax, and the regular fees...I'm not saying Ford won't price the car below 40 grand, but you probably will NOT be able to get it at 40 grand OTD...

another factor is that there is so much time between the car's showing and its expected release date (summer/fall 2006), which will give the speculators and dealers plenty of time to sharpen up their claws...The Shelby name isn't cheap, and buyers will be expected to pay extra for it (it would have been nice if this car was just the regualr svt cobra, and the shelby package was separate). Expect to see some quiet price creep when the Ford execs realize how hot a seller this model can be...I still remember them swearing that they could build and sell the GT for under $100,000 when it was a concept...now it's $150+, and many buyers are paying another $100,000 on top of that

Nobody interested in a vette is gonna consider a mustang, the only segment they compete in is HP rating, the stang/cobra loses out in every other catagory. Ford's closest competitor to the vette is the Ford GT and at 150k+ (and bozzos willing to to pay 200 to 300k for the Ford GT) the vette smashes it in the value vs. performance catagory especially with the Z06 on the horizon (well the Z06 smashes everything on the planet when it comes value vs. performance).

The Cobra may steal GTO sales, but defeinetly not vette sales.

Neither does any Shelby produced after 67, 68+ were dolled up mustangs with Shelby plastered all over them.

Don't bet on that. It might not steal sales from the Z06 but I can see it nipping a few sales away from the base Vette. About as expensive but a ton more powerful and it targets the 50 something guy who wanted a Shleby Stang but could never get one. The fact it will be faster(at least in a straight line) wouldn't hurt things.

I wouldn;t be too sure about that. It may be true buttake into account that the C6 is much lighter and that by the time the Cobra comes out, the LS2 will most likely get a power boost. Also, the base C5 and the older cobra were about even in a strait line even though the Cobra dynoed more. We will just have to see.
