Re: full cobra pics

To me, the cars are just completely different beasts. GM had a different set of goals with the Ls2/Ls1 goat than SVT did with this Cobra.

For their intended markets, both are excellent bargains and vehicles in their own right.

Yeah, true. But the GTO doesn't motivate me to shell out $33k. Heck it doesn't motivate me to shell out $23k. It's a step in the right direction, but it falls short on a number levels (not HP, I will give you that.)

That Shelby Mustang motivates me to shell out $39k.

It's hard to play on one side of this fence, and not play on the other as well
including or excluding dealer markup on the GTO?

Point taken...

Of course, I'd be incredibly shocked if the Shelby's don't get a healthy dose of dealer markup as well.

If this car (the GT500) ends up being a model year 07, what will the the 07 GTO MSRP for? Will there even be one? If not, what will the 06 GTO MSRP for?

In short, you're comparing a 2005 MSRP to a 2007 MSRP. Makes it a bit hard to come up with a price difference, I think.

That's true... however, I didn't make the comparision, I responded to it.

Regardless, I'd assume IF the GTO is in it's current form more-or-less in 2007, then it will be priced reasonably close to what it is now, save for standard price increases that all models get over time.

If it's out as an all-new model, I'd still expect it to not stray too far from it's current pricing structure... if anything, I'd think a new, North American built GTO's base price could DECREASE... based on the assumption that less content would be STANDARD, and the assumption that the cost to ship them from Oz would be removed from the equation.

cost to ship from australia would be replaced by cost of getting raped by the UAW

Re: full cobra pics

I am seriously wierded out today. I have been thinking about the Direction Ford has been going, multiple bad *** performance cars, 4 TV specials on Rides and others shows, the great time I have at Fun Ford weekend, and I realized they got me. Ford sunk their hooks in me. I have been a diehard Camaro guy, and in turn a GM guy. But now they have nothing! If I clear good money this year, I'd rather get a Viper than a Z06, If I don't wanna stretch myself thin, I'd take the GT500 over the base vette, and dump the extra $$ into the Stang and my 94 Z28. Hopefully they will release pics of a new Maro I love (I'd own a nice Camaro over anything) and can get me. I just don't see it.

Re: full cobra pics

I want one real bad

I agree, this blows the GTO out of the water. Besides having more power, the GT500 beats it in looks. It's just plain badass.

I guess GM will have to build one b**chin Camaro SS.

Actually it says slightly above $35,000. BTW, two people were told by a Ford rep that it would be about 5% higher than the 04 Cobra, roughly $36,750. I think it'll be $36,999

That's not how I read it...

The all new, 450-horsepower, six speed Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 is expected to cost slightly more than the current SVT Cobra Mustang, which has a list price of around $35,000.
Still that does suggest it might be under $40k.

I'm sorry, but if that's the case, there may be a red Mustang in my future.
