Ford NAILED this one.
Re: full cobra pics
I swear... for the first time ever, I am seriously considering buying non-GM.... I know I keep repeating myself... but it's hard for me to conprehend these feelings.
That garage of an Avalanche and a Corvette that I had in a year and a half or so is slowly turning into a vision of a F-150 Lariat and a Shelby GT500.

Just a little reminder for those of you who are geared up to be first in line:
Dealers were (and evidently, some still are) scalping the hell out of Mustang GT's, just wait to see what they're going to do with this thing.... My guess is good luck finding one for $10k over sticker the first several months or year.....
*on a side note* A couple of weeks ago, I ran across an eBay auction for the ability to purchase an '06 Z06 with only a $2500 markup...
I'd rather eat my shoe than throw away my hard earned bread just to be the first on the block...

The best thing they could do is knock people's socks of with a Camaro concept at the 2006 NAIAS. Considering recent news, I won't hold my breath.
It's ludicrous GM has nothing to compete with this beast.

this quote sticks out:
By the way, Thai-Tang has a message for those of us bummed out about the live rear axle: “Drive the car first,” he says, “and you’ll see it’s a nonissue, because the chassis is dialed in so well.”

This one also sticks out
"Final horsepower figures are not firm, but Thai-Tang hints it will be “well over 450 hp, closer to 500.” Look for 450-plus lb-ft of torque too. Whatever the final numbers, Ford says this will be the most powerful production Mustang ever."
I also found the part about keeping the pricing under 40g's encouraging. Same with the 3600lb curb weight. That iron-block 5.4L is powerful, but it's heavy as hell too and that kinda gave me a scare. 3,600lbs is acceptable, but 3,800+lbs would have been too much. So i'm kind of glad it isn't as heavy as i was expecting. I thought it'd be an even bigger porker.

Within a few months, these cars will be available at MSRP.
Also, there has been no indication that they are NOT building an '08, '09, etc. GT500's.

*creeps quietly out of the corner amidst the Ford cheers and GM jeers*
Personally the only reason I'd consider buying this car is for the powertrain. The look still does absolutely nothing for me and I hated the interior when I sat in it at the NAIAS.
*walking silently back into corner away from the party*

Re: full cobra pics
I got a Avalanche and a 99 Z28..
Its a nice combo.. Hard on the gas pump though. The Av is suprisingly quiet and smooth for road trips.. Its a total opposite from the Camaro (although alot slower and bulkier).
IMO, The Avalanche and Camaro are representive of the two most unique vehicles GM has made in this "era". I'm also part of the amusing statistic of everyone complaining (includign me) about rising gas prices, yet I still drive two gas guzzlers around.
We also have a Geo Tracker, and I'm thinking I would like to replace that with a Malibu Maxx - another unique car that GM made. (GM, are you getting a hint?
)
Unless gas prices becomes prohibitly expensive in the relative near future, I hope to get at least 10 years/150k miles out of these vehicles without any significant issues. (Camaro being the exception of course, since its driven hard and gets modded more and more as the years go by)
But I won't blame you for getting a F150 Lariet and a Shelby GT500! Those are some sweet vehicles.

That's a pretty short sighted statement....
GTO "will be" stomped by this... of course, GTO right now, stomps the Mustang.
Also, the Shelby , even if it is $39k or whatever, is going to be approx $6k MORE than the GTO... which people interestingly enough complain about a smaller margin of price differnce between GTO and Mustang GT as it stands right now.
It's hard to play on one side of this fence, and not play on the other as well
