Hate to say it, but I agree (OMG) - I'd like to see something concrete too.

So, that means we are now banking on "double-secret-inevitable" vaporware being faster than the LS2 GTO, sometime in the crystal-clear future.

If someone has something concrete, I'd love to see it.
I don't think there is anything "concrete" out there, just the same kind of "rumors" we have been getting about the Camaro. One thing concrete is the number of bulged hood stang mules out there. Some thing better than a 300hp GT is coming.

I don't think the LS2 GTO will be slower than a N/A 5.4L Mustang (assuming they both has equally gripping tires) Once you get rid of the KDWS's the GTO is a 12 sec car.

I think that some of your better drivers at the better tracks will run 12's in 05 GTOs on the stock tires.

As for it being as fast, faster, or slower than a future SE Mustang, that remains to be seen.

Given Ford's history with inadequate N/A motors in Mustangs since 1993 (except for the blown 4.6) I'd be very curious as to the viability of the 5.4 liter solution...

Furthermore, bank on one thing for sure:

The LS2 is nowhere near tapped out power-wise. There's still some low hanging fruit that can be easily grasped in the camshaft department.

Given the fact that the biggest concern seems to be drivetrain durability when mated up to the LS2 (note all the "electronic grandmothers" working away furiously in the Vette and holding it back...), I would think that those are the issues that should be taken care of first. Get the drivetrain to survive intact without the nannying, and then turn up the wick.

And if the hp war really heats up, there's still the 7.0 liter, 500hp gorilla LS7 out there lurking.

Again, the #1 issue in both camps is going to be drivetrain durability.

The current GT weighs about 3500lbs to the current GTO's 3800lbs. Plenty of enough difference. As far as traction, the current GT's live axle seems to be the best ever.

We can argue whether the 4.6 is any good. I'd say for a mainstream for the masses pony car, it's plenty.

The 5.4 stang will be a much more targeted performance car, just like the previous Mach1. And bottom line, I'm calling it a high 12 car. Now whatever GM thinks it has to do to answer that, I'm all for it. But the LS2, in its current state of tune, in a heavy GTO, is going to get trounced.

I'm also pissed the GTO is not slated for the LS7 in a GTO Judge.

.
'04 GTO was 3665lbs. Mustang is 3500lbs. LS2 is putting out a lot more power than the 4.6L 3v. I'd be very impressed if a heavier 5.4L stang could throw down the #'s a LS2 GTO, '03 Cobra, or Cobra R can.

Maybe it will get a 6.2L or 6.4L

Something along the lines of the HRT427 as a GTO would be cool (albeit as likely as me winning the lottery 10 times in a row).

If history is any indication it could very well have better or equal ET's but with less trap speed.

Up coming truck motor for the GMT900 trucks. First used in the Woodward Colorado. Car & Driver mentioned that it is called the L92 and will be production
