Arrow For all those who said the day would never come...

For all those out there who said the day would never come, GM just announced that their midsize SUV offerings (TrailBlazer/EXT, Envoy/XL/Denali models, and Rainier) would be seeing $1500-$2000 MSRP reductions. Now we shall see how this works in the market place. After reading all the opinions in the thread about rebates and discount, now we shall see where the money counts, literally.

For my sake, I sure hope this will spur in some new momentum for an already excellent set of SUV's.

I'm not sure that $1,500-2,000 MSRP cuts will be enough. I was just looking a Nissan Pathfinder XE 4x4 that had a $27,700 MSRP.

When you consider that these products are the worst packaged midsized SUVs left on the market, doesn't anyone think that a measley $2K price cut will do the trick. I mean seriously, the Trailblazer EXT is the same length as Nissan's fullsized Armada. GM needs to go back the drawing board to figure out how to fit fold-in-the-floor 7 passenger seating into the regular Trailblazer/Envoy/Ranier. I mean seriously, every other company has figured out how to do?

GM should consider doing this on every car that's been around unchanged for more than 3 years.

The GM SUV's are equipped with a solid rear axle, this is why the seats will not fold flat into the floor. When these trucks debuted, I believe the only mid-size SUV to come with IRS was the Ford Explorer.

The Dodge Durango also retains a live-real axle but still manages to fit in folding 3rd row seating, and also manages to be shorter than the overly long Trailblazer EXT.

The writing was on the wall when the first generation Mercedes M-class introduced the IRS to the mass production SUV. GM refused to read it.

I disagree. Newer products like the Pontiac G6, Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Cobalt would benefit even more from a retail price cut right now. I was appalled when the very first Cobalt I ever saw - a hideous "Sunset Orange" sedan - was a rental car.

Significant price cuts ($2,500 for Cobalt, $4,000 for the G6 and up to $6,000 for LaCrosses, for example) would make these unremarkable, boring products more saleable. What I'm suggesting is that a Cobalt SS Supercharged should equal the MSRP of a base Mustang V6, a G6 GT should match a 4-cylinder Camry LE on price and the loathsome LaCrosse shouldn't be priced anywhere near a 2006 Toyota Avalon (or even a base Chrysler 300).

If new product launches can't halt the decline in market share, price cuts are the only solution.

and do you just not like the sunset orange color or the cobalt in general?
just wondering
i saw one and thought it wasn't half bad for what it was (same orange sedan and everything)

I know a lot of you complain about GM's high prices and rebates. I work in retail, selling electronics and customers love to get a bargain. They demand sale prices. It doesn't matter what price I have displayed, I still have customers come in asking "what is my price" trying to haggle with me. I shop my competition weekly and generally have the lowest price up front and still get this question. Anyways, my point is....everyone likes to get a "good deal" you can start high and work your way down as GM does with its rebates, but you cant go up in price.

As the asinine comments continue...

1) There is no reason a V6 G6 GT with far more equipment should sell for $20k. Show me how that makes sense.
2) A base Cobalt for $10k? Have you even bothered to stop typing long enough to go LOOK at a Cobalt? I think your Nissan-biased lack of judgement needs to hop down to a Chevy dealer. But please, don't act too odd...they might get angry, and I don't want a fellow dealer to suffer with you too. We suffer enough.
3) Loathsome LaCrosse? R&T, C&D and MT all had good things to say about it. No one has disliked it. So you think a base LaCrosse should be $16k? Same price as a Civic, right???

Your head is stuffed so far up your derriere...it gets funnier with every post I read. To the rest of you, sorry for the tirade. But he just gets even more out of touch with reality with every single post. red, go find a Nissan forum...please?

Re: For all those who said the day would never come...

GM didn't add 7-passenger seating to the regular TrailBlazer because they wanted to do it right. Sure, they could have done like Ford and Dodge and added one solely for marketing purposes (Ford and Dodge third row seats are unliveable). Or they could do the right thing, make it a true, comfortable 5-seater, and make an extended version for those who want 7 seats. I agree the EXT versions seem unnecessary when compared to a Tahoe, but I people want them, might as well build them.

Re: For all those who said the day would never come...

For the arguement of whether or not the EXT and XL versions should exist or not, they have proven to be quite popular in my region. For those who really need a third row of seats, this is the ticket short of a Suburban. We have a 6'10'' consultant here, and even he fits just fine (not cramped at all) in the third row seat. Now try that in any of the competition.

As it goes for the comment of the packaging of the GM360 platform, this platform is an excellent one. Anyone who says differently really needs to take a new one for a ride. Very smooth, quiet, and roomy (for most), just as my customers want them.
