I'm going to be watching the redline closely and if there are any changes to the valvetrain. If Ford bumps the redline on the Boss without any other changes, then I think we can all be confident in doing the same to a regular GT....with a good tune of course. I like.

I've seen several dynos from the 5.0. Certainly the redline needs to be moved up, but the power really does peak - and begin to drop off - right at ~6600 rpm. So far, even tuning the variable timing hasn't increased that rpm peak, but of course, Ford might be able to do do something that will affect it.

Personally I think the ZL1 should be a ZR1 mirror (monster power) while a Z/28 carries a different connotation (a scalpel instead of a hammer if you will).

I was reading an article on the coyote's VVT cam torque actuated system and the article stated that this configuration was better suited to low and mid range operation with the CTA system having problems actuating the cam at high rpm. On the otherhand an OPA (oil pressure actuated) system was better in high rpm operation, the trade off being that the OPA's need for a high pressure oiling system negated some of the effciency gains from the VVT.

Of course this is not to say the coyote cannot rev (hell even Cosworth is using roller finger followers on some of thier F1 engines rather than a DAMB), but I suspect thats where your seeing the nose dive in power coming from.

I suspect for really radical engine combinations the best thing for max power would be to lock out the cams and install some big bumpy sticks.

Pretty cool stuff, Ford is getting it right, the new 5.0s are bad *** cars. I really like how the Mustang guys are using parts from the 2010 Mustang Cobra Jet drag car program. Many of the Cobra jet parts carry a Ford Racing numbers, readily available for purchase by enthusiasts like us. It's like getting factory developed drag car parts, pretty neat. So now if Ford has a factory road race cars, you can just imagine many of those parts will also carry Ford Racing part numbers like a lot of the Cobra Jet goodies do. Is there an after market, sure, but it sure is neat to see parts for the manufacturer's own racing program. Chevy should build a ZL1 drag car similar to what Ford did with the Cobra jet and offer up the same deal through GMPP on factory developed drag goodies. Sorry guys, Fords on the ball.

Sad if Ford makes one, instead of GM.
I would consider it the "spiritual" Boss 302. Considering that the Boss 302 and Z/28 were arch-competitors back in the day....

I realize that. I just said it for Charlie, because I know how passionate he is, on the matter.

Ford has been doing this for sometime with its various race cars, Nearly every part on the FR500C is available through the FRPP catalog. I think the only part you couldn't get from Ford was the seem welded and braced chassis - IIRC that was something else Multimatic did for Ford.

I think alot of the 2000 Cobra R stuff was available in the catalog as well (but not as extensive as the Cobra Jet or FR500C stuff).

1LE?

Once the Z28 comes out, I would think it would be little trouble installing some Z28-specific pieces to the SS to make this happen.

As far as power goes, its likely just a CAI and tune just like the Bullit was. Not to mention that some guys are running 425-430rwhp with just a CAI and tune. Running low 12's. I think thats also where those 115's "stock" were coming from.

You won't be able to tune a GT engine into the BOSS
