Ford unveiling Boss Mustang on August 13th?
With all-new powertrains debuting in the 2011 Ford Mustang, you knew it was just a matter of time before a new limited-edition model was introduced. Well, it looks like that time may be next week. As you all know very well by now, the 2011 Mustang GT has the new Ford 5.0 V8 underhood. Since the new race version (above) wears the Boss 302R moniker, a new street-going Boss 302 seems like a no-brainer.
During a recent Grand-Am race, the announcers let slip that the consumer-spec Boss 302 would debut in mid-August at Laguna Seca as part of Pebble Beach week. (The exact date spinning around the rumormill is August 13.) The Boss reportedly delivers about 430 horsepower with a price in the low $30,000 range. Ford's motorsports partner, Multimatic, is apparently building some special parts for the Boss 302, but we'll have to wait until next week to find out those specifics if indeed this rumor is true. Check out the video after the jump.

Very interesting....it will also be interesting to see if the differences between it and the regular GT will be worth any extra coin, or if they will be more suited to those who just want something more exclusive (not really my cup of tea, but to each their own).

Rumor is, some GT500 suspension parts. lightening, not as many frills, and more horsepower with a higher redline.
It is supposed to truly be the spiritual successor to the original Boss.
I don't think it will be in the low $30's, but I guess we will see.

Anyway, can't wait to see the final package.
Hopefully they don't bs this car. Make something that you would be proud to wear the Boss name.
If Multimatic is involved, that sounds like suspension stuff. FR500C and other R model stuff aside, Multimatic seems to be the go to guys for all of Ford's suspension needs (they did the the FRPP FR3 kit's dampners for the Mustang). IIRC one of Multimatics guys is highly regarded when it comes to suspension tuning.
Will be interesting to see how the Boss turns out. A track tuned suspension and brake pad upgrade along with those new GY F1 supercars tires would really make for a cool package, might even be enough for the Boss to give the M3 a run for the money which IMO is what it needs to do.

Sad if Ford makes one, instead of GM.
But I have a prediction:
If the Boss makes a big splash - and I'm sure it will - in one of the the RenCen towers, someone will pick up a phone and say, "Why didn't we make a Camaro like that"?
What's more distrubing, the fact that that call may take place, or the possibility that it hasn't already?
Even if it had............... realistically, how could they make a true Z/28 with the current platform, and its............. um............. "big bones?"
Then, after coming out with their GT500 Z/28, what would they name a Boss competitor??

Well, there are limits to the current car's architecture. If you are looking for a lightweight corner carver, that's just plain not possible on this gen ........maybe next gen.
Hopefully, when/if that happens, enough people at GM will "get" the connection with the Z/28 name. Maybe some of us will need to keep reminding them though.
