Wow...if this missed quality control problem when they are hand made and produce 3k cars a year...what do they miss when its mass produced making 300k plus cars a year?
I know you all were waiting for me to reply.

Everone has recalls, it's not that big of a deal. GM has already recalled the Cadillac XLR and C6 Corvette, just a few of the 10,500,000 recalled vehicles they have had this year (as of November).

Re: Ford Quality: JOB ONE
The guys on the Ferrari forums sure do understand this more than you guys do. They only WISH that Ferrari would recall their cars voluntarily. They are complaining that Ferrari will only recall when forced to............ and Ferrari's have alot of problems.
Shouldn't a manufacturer who has been building low volume cars by hand for decades be able to make a perfect car???
PS. Ferrari has had "DO NOT DRIVE" orders due to recalls also, as have GM, DCX, Chrysler (before DCX) Mercedes, and about every other manufacturer............ both big and small, expensive and cheap. Most on the Ferrari forum appreciate the fact that Ford has done this before anyone has even had a problem. They also realize how hard it was for Ford to do this, as they know it will be plastered on the front page of every publication and website on earth. Remember when BMW's were catching fire left and right for no reason??? You probably don't, because nobody really reported it.

Hey it happens to everyone, so it's cool.
I dunno, Ford wanted all the glory building this car, so IMO they have to be ready to take the heat when something like this happens too. With a car with this much hype and scrutiny you can't have it both ways. They knew it was going to be front and center in the spotlight from Day One....they had to get this thing right, from the start. I'm not saying they won't make it right, I'm glad they are taking the steps to do it, but talk about having your egos bruised!

Re: Ford Quality: JOB ONE
Actually, what you say is part of the reason I am impressed with Fords response on this. Noone has actually had a problem, and noone has been hurt. Yet they issued a recall based on "just in case."
One thing that many have to understand here, is that EVERYTHING about how this car is built is new to Ford. Many of the manufacturing processes used for this car are patented. Thus, to have some issues is not to be unexpected.
However, the sad but true fact is that many of those who are not in the automotive "know" will now proclaim the car to be a POS. Of course this will be perpetuated by the media who will splash it all over the information world, and sensationalize it as if every owner who bought one is now dead due to the defect.
Just as a FYI, here is a post from the Ferrari forum on the F360 recalls that kinda puts things in perspective.
There is also this:

360 Recalls
#19 Brake and clutch fluid reservoir hoses. 3-00
The wrong hose was used it was not compatible with brake fluid, a call any counter man at PEP BOYS could have made. It could have caused brake failure.
#25 Air bag ECU. 4-00
Improperly mounted. Can cause failure of deployment of air bags.
#27 ABS ASR ECU Defective ECU's Could cause failure of system. 4-00
#28 Starter ring gears. Uncontained explosions of disintegrating ring gears. 10-00
#30 Instrument cluster reprogramming 3-01
#35 Engine ground strap. Poor grounding of engine, can cause sudden loss of power. 4-02
Recalls are only for safety related items, as you can see some of these are serious and were done as a response to real world failures.
You should see the list of items that are service bulletins and are not considered safety related. The list of VINs for each of these is very long and in some cases covers entire production up to date of issuance. Many recalls listed here have a matching recall for every other model then in production.

This was a Casting problem not a design problem. There's a big difference in designing something wrong and having something go wrong in the production of the vehicle.
Unlike Ferrari's debacle with the early injection system on the 308s that caused so much litigation. Or the bubbling center consol on the 355s. The list goes on (see above w/ the 360). Anyone with a 348 want to chime in on problems from the factory.
Personally I think this should go under people living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
