Ford isn't done renaming its cars
This just in...the Equinox replacement for 2009 will be rebadged as the Lumina APV!!!!!!
(No, I'm not on crack, but apparently I can amuse myself with ease, and this beats peeling wallpaper right now

The more I read about Ford's name changing, the more bizzare it seems.
The new CEO, Alan Mullany, asks alot of (rightful) questions on the wisdom of droping a name with built up equity and makes a pointed joke publically at his own marketing department naming policy (he said he was still waiting for his 'Zephyr' to test out). Then, not only does marketing decide to bring back the Taurus name, it goes off the deep end and renames things that don't even need renaming. This is either a case of people not knowing what they are doing and taking the boss' suggestion way too far, or the most blantant & obvious case of a** kissing in automotive corperate history (which according to a few is how Ford got into trouble in the 1st place).
I agree with bringing back the Taurus name 10000%. I'd be the 1st in line to say Ford needs to drop MKZ and return to the Zephyr name. The MKX was supposed to be called the Aviator!!
The upcoming Lincoln sedan was initially supposed to be the return of the Lincoln Continental!
There's nothing wrong with "Freestyle". Montego is already a historic Mercury name dating back to the 1960s, so there shouldn't be an issue there. But renaming these cars Taurus X and Sable is laughable.
At the same time, Lincoln's Zephyr (also a historic name at Ford) actually built familiarity and name recognition before Ford's retarded naming guru swiped it for a generic "MKZ" moniker, completely obliterating any value and meaning of the "Mark" title on any future Lincoln coupe.
I am convinced that Ford of recent years have been run by people who not only have no idea on running a car company, but MUST be members of the same business graduating class or school that nearly ran GM into the ground with "badge engineering", killing succesful cars & killing investment in car development.
I just have no logical explanation of all this.

Meanwhile, over at Renaissance Center, there's breaking news...
In late breaking developments, the '08 Malibu has been re-named the Corsica. Furthermore, the re-designed '09 Impala will be called the Celebrity on its debut, the G8 will be the 6000, the new Astra will be the SL, SL1 and SL2, and to top it all off, the Solstice will be re-named the Fiero. When asked why, CEO Richard Wagoner stated "we decided to return to our glory days in the 1980s when we held over 40% of the market. I was touring a Detroit Metro junkyard the other day, and came across an '87 Celebrity Eurosport, replete with 14" steel wheels, a 130hp 2.8 MPFI V6, and neat red trim. It seemed like such a great idea..."
In other news, the 2.0 DI turbo 4 is being replaced, even before its debut, with the Quad 4...
