I thought the 500 was on a new chassis, and the only ford going on the volvo S40 chassis is the Focus?

LMAO... so let me get this straight. Back in the mid 50s, Ford used the name "Futura", then Pep boys came along in the mid 60s and started using "Futura" for their tires as well. Ford never said anything about it.

Then fast forward 40 years and Ford wants to use the name that they were using first, and Pep Boys claims ownership of it!?

Isn't that like a giant slap in the face. "Thanks for letting us use your name way back when, but now it's ours and only ours unless you want to pay us for it".

Or am I not seeing the whole picture here?

No, Ford made a Futura, stopped making them, dropped the rights to the name, Peps picked it up, Ford wants it back, Pep told them to pay up or shut up. This is a FUBAR on Fords part. Why is everyone trying to put it on Peps? Ford are the dumbasses in this part...again. Maybe they want to make a Ford Goodrich, or a Ford Toyo. Maybe a Ford ET Street?
Lame a$$ Ford.

Personally, I think its a bad move on Peps part. If the Futura were to sell in numbers like the old Taurus, the Futura name would be everywhere. I would think that would boost sales of there POS cheapo tire.

Why is Ford so hung up on using an "F" word anyhow? It's pretty lame IMO to try limit yourself to such a narrow selection of words when doing something as important as naming a car. Do they really think consumers will care that all (or should I say, 'most') Ford-branded cars start with an F? No, they will not. They will care far more what the specific car they are looking at is named, and if it has a retarded name, they'll skip right over it and buy an Impala.

ford has done it before, and so has chevy. If it wasnt for the "C" line in the 60's, then the Camaro would have been a Panther.
Corvair, Camaro, Chevelle, Corvette.

Chevrolet had just as many non-C words in the same era: Nova, Impala, Monte Carlo, Biscayne, Nomad, Bel-air.

Panther didn't come about because they were afraid it was too close to the Mercury Cougar.
