Why the F doesn't Ford just update the CV platform like it updates the Ford Ranger? Keep it in production for eons and update only as crash standards mandate change....

The Ranger hasn't been updated significantly in 11 years and the current version will also be heading out of production soon.

There is only a 3% difference in lap times between a CV and a Tahoe.

Aha! It looks like Tahoe does in fact corner well enough.

Also, Grattan Raceway FTW.

I would like to see Ford somehow take the F150 frame and as many components as they can and make a redone Crown Vic. It would likely be heavier due to the increased frame weight but would likely handle better. Another option would be to take the Explorer frame and suspension and modify it for car usage, the tooling is paid for and it will be replaced by a unibody FWD based D3 version soon. It isn't like Ford doesn't have plants already setup to build the current Explorer.

Just things that pass through my mind.

I can see this happening, I don't know what Fords plans are but I bet CVs will be hard to get in 2011 for the smaller LE depts.

This is what happened when the Caprice came to a end in 1996. Production was scheduled to end in the summer of 1996 but had to be extended to mid December 1996 to fill all of the law enforcement orders. Also Impala SS orders doubled in 1996 too.
