i say it just continues the "mustang" look, look at all mustangs except the '79 to '93 and to a lesser degree the '71-'73 and they all look alike, same basic design cues.maybe the mustangII was the first retro mustang!i have mixed feelings about retro,it could be like greatest hits reissues or it could be that the designs are not really moving forward, but at the same time, what worked before can always work,it could be a timeless quality to design.i don't know, the mustang concept and certainly the mini fall into a gray area, how can a mustang look like a mustang without having a retro tag slapped on it and the mini never changed, from the late '50s until the new one,so it's not at all retro, just an overdue redesign.
retro is nothing new anyway, rolls royce did it decades ago,a '69 grand prix is a retro dusenberg,my miata is a japanese elan.classic is classic.

A totally new design.
no way
An evolution of the current Mustang.
not by a long shot
A mix of old and new cues.
hmm.. not in my eyes. Could be, but its "new"ness doesn't stand out well enough from the retro Fastback cues that are screaming out all over the place. There's no 69-73 in it, there's no Mustang II, there's no 79-93. There's not even any first-gen regular design.. it's all about the 65-68 fastback.
Full-Blown Retro
That's the best matching answer for my $$. It's obviously extremely influenced by the firstgen fastback in almost every aspect, while trying to be modern.

If the bottom edge of the side glass was 2 or 3 inches lower, taking the hood line and trunk lines with it, then it would be hard to tell apart from a 65 Fastback from a distance.

Very odd observations, but very true methinks.

I voted for old and new cues. I don't even care if the car was retro. The early 70's Mustangs had good styling, no?

Agreed.

To my eyes, the front is most like the '68 Shelby, and the rear is most like the '69-'70 Shelby (they were exactly the same cars - the '70 Shelby's were actually '69's that were re-VIN'ed before sold.)

I guess we could say the back looked more like the '69-'70 Cougar too, since Shelby put Cougar taillights in his Mustangs from '67 thru '70!

Don't forget it also has side-view mirrors as did all the different generations.

Retro...but

I think it is evolutionary also, if for no other reason that it still has the arch from a pillar to B pillar that the current gereration has, except it is more attractive in the new concept.

Of course it also has lots of 67-70 looks about the front end, so in a way you can still say evolutionary.

But still much of the car breaks plenty of new ground for Mustang, and it has a very classy look to it.

I like the interior a lot too, but hope it does not get a cheap look to it in the conversion to production.

Well done Mr Mays. I think it is brilliant. Long live well done Retro.

They car is WAY too "way back." I understand cues, but its not the 60's and there is no need for a new 60's M*****g. The current car does well because it looks the way it should. Cues with some new.

Hey Darth...
Boy, I think we both missed the call on this one
Going on 3 days and no fireworks or bashing in this thread!
Everyone simply stating their opinions and having them read as such...
It's actually getting a little dull.
Wanna speculate on a Camaro GT or a Mustang SS?!?!
