Follow up poll: Is the 2005 Mustang Concept full-blown retro or no?

:D

This should be interesting... :)

SNEAKY NEIL 01-29-2003 11:43 AM

Definatly full-blown retro. There is no way getting around it. It is a direct copy of one generation and that is it. Just because it is made out of new materials, does not mean it is a new design.

Chris 96 WS6 01-29-2003 11:50 AM

Full blown definitely. Yes its in a "modernized" package but that's what retro is. Just rebuilding an exact replica would just be "old" :D

Now why did you have to go and do something like this...

You going for "longest thread of the year", "most reads", or both? ;)

I voted... you gess which one!:D :p :D

BTW - SneakyNeil, "a direct copy"?!?!

There goes my productivity for the next day or two...

I see it as a very modern car with hints from the past, and so I voted a mix of the old and new. It's only the front clip that makes it look so retro and even that has a different and more modern look to it then the original. The other parts are just lesser cues.

Not trying to argue your view, as eveyone sees a design in his or her own way, but I see heavy retro in the profile and the rear of the car as well... it looks a lot like a 67 fastback to me in many many ways from all angles...

:)

cough: full blown retro :cough 67' Mustang is written all over that car. I'm not saying that they aren't attractive (especially the coupe), but retro just isn't my bag.

The only thing thats trying harder to look exactly like its predecesser than the 05 Stang is the GT. Its not full blown retro, its mega-full blown retro.

Meccadeth 01-29-2003 02:07 PM

The only styling cues it shares w/ the current Mustang is that its brick-shaped still, and you can only make a brick look so good

guionM 01-29-2003 02:59 PM

Definately a mix of old and new.

Styling is subjective, and IMHO the new Stang is definately NOT retro, but it does have styling cues of the past. Compare it to the PT Cruzer or Mini or Thunderbird that is a modernized carbon copy of past designs and Mustang looks far more modern than it does like anything from the late 60s.

If it looked like a torpedo, or had a notch back, then I'm sure more people would view it as something other than retro. But (again, just my own view on this) I don't see it as retro.

SNEAKY NEIL 01-29-2003 04:36 PM

I wish I had the quote but the designer said he looked at the 67' and only that generation. Where are the styling cues from other generations? All this has already been discussed but oh well.

The Rear View is more like the 69/70 Shelby Cars.

Retro is like porn...it's hard to define but you know it when you see it:)

I belive I see it...
