Re: Finally...the NSX gets some *****!

Are you saying Ferrari's can't perform?

PS: Bill Gates certainly qualifies.

Re: Finally...the NSX gets some *****!

a 500hp v10? Don't they know that the vipers have this right now?
All that is gonna happen is that Honda is gonna make some expensive carbon fiber monocaque car. And while it will be fast, and nice, its gonna get outdone by the next gen viper that costs half as much. This is cool that they are doing it, but I hope they aren't expecting to make money off of it...With the viper croud being mad that a vette is slapping all of them around, dodge will end up making a very very fast next gen viper. And the c6 z06 team knows this, and is also preparing.

Re: Finally...the NSX gets some *****!

The NSX is known for its handling and being a well balanced mid engine sports car. I think it's most likely competitor will be the 911 and on the upper end F430 and DB9. I wish Honda would come out with a new CL based on the RL w/ the SH-AWD and 300hp+. That would be a nice answer to the G35 coupe and Lexus SC430.

Well, not that much loftier...Hehe. The z06 can take the modena. So can the Ford GT. As soon as Ferrari found out about this, they of course wanted the 430 to be a better vehicle. I haven't heard of it being tested against the z06 and ford gt yet though. I'm sure it would still be very very close, with each of them doing better in different categories. I'm not really a fan of the 430. It looks nice, but isn't that fast (considering its a Ferrari). The old 550 and 575 Maranellos were good cars for their time. The enzo was a good car when it was made also. But right now, with that Panoz looking 599 and the OK looking, not so fast 430 I'm not attracted to Ferrari.

Hehe, Panoz means diarrhea in russian - which incidentally also resembles the 599.

It still won't be Z06 fast but at least now it is faster than a LT1 w/ a CAI

No one is taking into consideration that the original NSX came out in what 1990? At that point it would pretty much own any thing out there. With some imagination, you could credit it with the growth in performance in cars during the mid 90's and into today. Let's put the almighty corvette of 1990 against a 1990 nsx, much different story then. Be thankful that such a wonderful automobile exists. The NSX was truly a daily drivable exotic. I still turn my head, what about you all?

The naturally aspirated part is what is the most impressive. You'd tihnk they woulda turbo'd it, heh.
Despite how the aftermarket chooses to make power, Honda seems to shy away from forced induction in their automotive engines. There is not one Honda engine powered by a turbo/supercharger sold in the US, and I can't recall one that has been. They are all about doing things with high revving, naturally aspirated engines.

I am really interested to see how this new NSX will turn out. My money is on it being a stellar performer, so I definetly wouldn't write it off yet, like so many people here have or are going to.

In 1994 an LT1 Camaro had the same 0-60 time as a NSX.

and I guess you have forgot about the LT5 Vettes and the 400HP Viper (1992).

I didn't say that. The point is that aiming for the F430 is an excellent goal. If the new NSX performs like an F430 and gives a similar driving experience, it's going to be one hell of a car, especially if they can keep it in the same price range as the last NSX (~90K).

Plus, Ferrari would have some 'splainin to do!

All that aside, the F430 is far from the most expensive car you can buy -- it's about 170K, and yet all of the guys at Car and Driver (and many other mags) would rather have one of these than ANY OTHER CAR, regardless of price.

No, it's not going to win every race, but there's more to performance than going fast.

Re: Finally...the NSX gets some *****!

0-60 times are silly for the NSX. It is not a drag car. I don't remember numbers, but I am sure it finishes the 1/4 faster than an LT1, and if not it has a higher trap speed. Around a road course, the LT1 would get owned.

Although the NSX was a good sports car when it came out, people bought it for the "look at me" factor more than the performance factor I think.

People STILL want it for that.

For many year quarter mile types

"According to Car and Driver, those figures gave the 1994 NSX a zero-to-60-mph time of 5.2 seconds. The quarter mile came up in 13.7 seconds at 104 mph. " - http://mph-online.com/mag/rearview/0012

Early 90's cars trap about the same as a strong LT1 Camaro, just over 100mph.

Maybe a 1LE would put up a good fight, but the NSX will still take it in the corners.
