Uh, so a company based in Japan with a significant controlling interest by Ford has a problem with the Mazda 5, a car that shares quite a few components with the Ford parts bin and engineering team, and has a problem that recalls the first 2700 cars released due to the potential of starting a fire and you expect to see it on every major news site out there?

were some of the coverage. BTW, one source had the number at 5,500 instead of 2,700.
If you're going to use a weaksauce argument as this, you might want to actually read your own links.
My point is that the real new sites....i.e. MSNBC.com, CNN.com, ABCNews.com, CBSnews.com, Foxnews.com, etc.....had any coverage whatsoever.
YES, ALL manufacturers have recalls, but they are NOT covered with the same zeal as the domestics are always front page news.
Imagine if the first 1,000 Solstice's were recalled because Pontiac was too stupid to know that you can't use a pertoleum based undercoating above the catalytic convertor due to the fact that it will melt then drip and catch fire.
Pontiac's image would have been damaged beyond repair...but hey, it was Mazda...oops is all we get.

The C5 recall was for steering column lock when you tried to start the car....not at speed...
...but I suppose that made your weak attempt at slamming GM sound more exciting.....If you knew anything about the recall or the actual design you'd have known that the problem lies in the motor that retracts the lock pin when the key is turned to start...and re-inserts it when the key is removed. The problem is wear on the lock plate and the sticking of the pin on movement.

Wrong again....the only mention of driving is that should a customer drive off without having the lock disengage, then there would obviously be a problem.
This problem is only present when the key is being engaged or disengaged.......otherwise there is no call for the lock motor to operate.
In fact they state that the only way to even drive off while the lock is still in place is IF there were a failure in the PCM that had the wrong voltage to the circuit and the fuel NOT be shut off.
No where does it say that there has been any report of a Corvette suddenly locking the column at speed....only if you were stupid enough to drive off while it was still locked.
