Dodge Super Bee (1st pictures)
Re: Dodge Super Bee (1st pictures)
First they desecrate the Charger name, and now Super Bee. Trevor Creed should be shot!
In general I don't mind the LX cars, but I would never by the Charger, two too many doors! Should have named it something else.
I hope GM doesn't do a four door GTO, should it return.

A flaming yellow paint scheme doesn't do a whole helluva lot to create excitement here.
Basically DCX is doing what they can to keep their LX plant running at capacity. If that means brining out marginal models to shore up the slowing demand from their mainstream models, then that's what they'll do. The Super Bee (and Challenger, for that matter) fits perfectly into that plan.

Can anyone give me an example of a car comparable to a new Charger SRT8?
You get good handling --> ~.9 G
Braking --> Brembos from the factory (even if the stopping distance isn't super-car like, at least you have the hardware in place and you can always upgrade the pads/rotors)
HP --> Quarter mile on a bad day is 13.3, average is 13.0-13.1, and if you live where the baro. hits 30.9, you might be able to run a 12.6.
~ $36k msrp. Regardless of whether you dislike the 4 doors, show me a better package currently offered? The 4 doors is a big plus to me with 2 kids. NOt to mention, the back seat is LARGE. Oh, and you get great seats with great side bolstering.
I can just see GM falling short with their competitor. Sure, it may look better, and may even weigh less, and offer a 6spd + LS2. I can even see it turning similar quarter mile times (with the 6spd, so my automatic is still as quick).
But, it'll probably have GTO like handling, and GM's version of performance brakes, and I think we all know to expect seats less performance oriented than anything in the SRT8, and the base price will probably be $34-38k.
I'd quickly give up my brand loyalty for the (probably uglier) SRT8 charger with brembos, stiff handling, proper seats, etc.
So, what I can see winning me over in Chevy or Pontiac's new RWD sedan in a couple years:
420-450hp (400 would be enough if it weighed 3600lbs, but we know that won't happen) Automatic quarter mile 12.6-13.0@ 108-111mph
6spd automatic
Sharp handling, pulling at LEAST .88 G
Brembo brakes
Good seats
It would require all that, for an MSRP of $36k
It is for those reasons above that I would gladly pay more money for the SRT8 Jeep over the TBSS. TBSS lacks handling & brembos, seats, (whole interior is garbage) The acceleration is acceptible (kinda), but they should dump the freakin' 6L80 in there already!
After sitting in the TBSS at the autoshow, and seeing all the old GM buttons/dash, etc, I wouldn't take a fully loaded AWD TBSS for $25k!
