It's a major disappointment.

If this is supposed to turn around Buick, then...

Lightning gal,
I definately agree about the 500 I think it is a great car for Ford and will do really well in the marketplace. I even belive that at least one writer said the car was the BEST American fullsize car for the money.

I think both of our sources are potentially equally unreliable unless you want to talk to the engineers themselves, which is supposedly also be unreliable because they'll lie to you and tell you it's a ground-up redesign when supposedly it's just a refresh.

In other words there's no answer y'all are willing to accept.
I think that is the solution to the problem, talk to the engineers. No, I am not willing to accept what marketing (media, Toyota press releases) have to say about the platform. They will use all the verbiage they can to get mileage out of the expression "totally new". You see it all the time. In addition, I tend to feel GM is thoroughly honest about their cars' humble beginnings, and the press hammers it home. In every article. I don't really hear that about the Accord or Camry.

I know now I do remember reading that the Camry received an all new platform in 2002, which most of its platform-mates have converted to now (except for that older Highlander). So I will beleive that. The Accord is a tricker subject. I will also choose to beleive it received a new platform with the newest redesign. I wish the Japanese would be more forthright with thier cars' origins and the media less deceiving.

The best way to figure this out, imo, is to take a good hard look at some of the hardpoints on these cars. Things like the beltlines, overall front and rear overhangs, etc...

I don't think we'll ever get confirmation on this...

94 LightningGal: For the $30K starting price, the "perception" of the Lucerne will be low tech, old tech, old Detroit.
I disagree, with "Quiet Tuning, Remote Start, Stabiltrak and a host of other amenities, like XM sat/radio, a more Modern shell than the 500(definitely in a class above)...it will be quieter, more reliable, safer, higher tech, sexier and more powerful than ever. For a price that really hasn't risen much to reflect the tech and inflation...(My '95 model Park was $34,900..)

Wow... someone actually looking at all the good parts of something. How refreshing.
