A $40,000 Camaro is not needed when you can buy a $43,000 Vette

$40,000 GTO or Grand National is reasonable

 

Who says it needs to cost $40K to compete with GT500?

We don't need a Camaro to go head to head with the GT 500?......WHAT!? ..... I can't believe you think GM doesn't need a Camaro to go head to head with the GT 500. Ford already kicked Chevrolets A$$ with the Mustang. Sometimes I read stuff on this board and I can't believe what I just read.


As for Z/28 VS. SS if you know anything you know whats up

Exactly, you can easily build a car that makes the same ammount of HP that the the gt500 does. If gm goes the S/C route it can easily be accomplished so why not? NA would be a little more difficult but since the ls2 already has 400hp 50+ more should be that hard to achieve.

DCX cars have the 6.1 425HP hemi, Ford has the 330ci S/C 450+hp motor, GM has the ls2 400hp.


I do agree that the SS should be the top model like it was even back in the 60's

 

Wrong... the Z/28 was, and before we get to this point ZL-1 was an engine designation. It would be like having a Camaro LS-1 as the top model.

 

YES!!!! The Camaro has always been the faster car throughout the years.(okay, L98 IROC/Z28 vs 5.0 Mustang was a draw).

Hell, the Z06 is going to put the GT back on the trailer for less than half price.....so why not the Z/28 (yes, Z/28.....not some used on damned near every Chevy model SS moniker ) will have something for the Mustang elite....

Oh maybe it won't quite be it's equal in the horsepower wars....but in overall....read that again....OVERALL performance it should more than hold it's own.

Its possible to have the Z28 below the hand built GT500.
Engine is MUCH cheaper to produce (like a 6.2 or cammed 6.0) then the Ford SC'ed motor.
I mean...they got a 500hp, 3100lb RACE CAR UNDER 70k, with aluminum chassis, CF body pannels, and world class suspension and brakes...
I think we can get a 450hp Camaro for under 40k.
Cant say the same for Ford.

Here's what it boils down to. 2003 was the first year(in age of the corporate engine) that a stang ran faster than a Vette. That's pretty much like jumping over the fence and going to play with the big boys.

The GT500 is going to smoke the base C6.

I know this is all new territory, but get used to it. The SVT stangs play with Vettes. Any production Camaro that could take on the GT500 would also saw Vette sales off at the knees.

How do I sell a $45K Vette that's sitting right next to faster $35K Z/28?

As to 'spin'........let's put it this way.....we were constrained (by financial) to two engines in the 4th gen. I'd say we did pretty well, wouldn't you, in terms of performance? Further, we kept stretching the LS1 power.....and offered factory warranted performance increases in the form of the SS and the SS with 335 and 345hp versions.

Finally.......when we SAID you got 325hp........you GOT MORE than 325hp.

Perhaps I'm a little sensitive tonite.................

 

Have no fear a guy that can affor a Vette is not gonna look at a Camaro and niether is it the other way around. The only reason most people on this board will SETTLE for a Vette is because there is no Camaro .
