Ouch, ouch, ouch. A sales hit like that, with employee pricing program at the same time, and relatively fresh product. Hate to see what this month holds.....
Wasn't it a couple months back Chrysler was accused of unloading cars on dealers, that couldn't take anymore?

Chrysler isFAR more dependent on trucks than any other US auto maker. Dodge trucks have been defying trends (and gravity) since fuel prices went up and the sales of truck at GM and especially Ford have gone down. The only hits Chrysler has on the car side is the 300, the Charger, the and to a lesser extent, the Magnum. The new Dodge Caliber is also a hit, but is still picking up steam.
Chrysler also was overproducing vehicles. I'm sure Jason knows more about this than I do, but it seems Chrysler was also pushing dealers to accept large quanities of it's less desirable and older models to get the hot selling ones.
There's gotta be a point when dealers are saturated and can't take any more. Throw in that Dodge trucks are finally being affected by higher fuel prices & that the LX craze (while still very much there) has leveled off somewhat, and Chrysler hit's a wall.
But NO ONE is predicting Chrysler won't recover.... unlike Ford.
Ford had the same drop in monthly sales over last year, but unlike Chrysler that has new vehicles coming out the wazoo for the next few years and essentially a skeleton workforce, Ford seems stuck in the mud and almost self destructive as far as bringing out new & exciting vehicles... or at least designs.

It seems the percentage drops noted are comparing last years fire sale of employee pricing. Apples and Oranges really cept for Chrysler. Not as big of impact as it might appear. I'd like to see numbers compared to previous months of this same calendar year without the employee pricing fire sale skewing the numbers.....

True, but the argument is never used in reverse when sales look better because the prior year didnt have a 'fire sale'.
In the retail clothing industry they often blame the weather for poor sales for a particular season when they don't meet profit projections, but they never give the weather the credit when sales are good.

Good to see the Impala, MC, G6, Vette, GTO, and HHR (did it have a full month last year?) doing well.
Seems now that the General is trimming the fat off and getting its new product out, its feeding itself well. Octobers truck release will make it only better!
