CTS-V Pricing, Motortrend

Looks like the tip the lady at the ny show told me about the cts-v being $52k will be right on the money. Motor Trend did a guestimate, and review in the latest motor-trend, price, $50,000.

CTSv press release quote, 2005: "Cadillac has announced incentives of up to $5000 on CTSv, a new high for General Motors."

Screw that dude. Just becuase you don't like it doesn't mean that it won't sell. The XLR is freeking 75k and they are booked out for the first year already. The first 99 went for 99k in 14 mintues.

The CTSv will be a huge success. You'll be getting alot of 25 yr-old plus salesmen/executives/professionals. Hell, i already told my broker to put me on the list for one at a dealership.

Agreed.

I think the board has an inherant tendancy to look at every car from a "Camaro" point of view, and therefore think a car of CTS-V's calibur is doomed to fail because it is not affordable to the Average Joe.

Now, that is to be expected, being this is CAMAROZ28.com , but I think CTS-V will be a huge success, as well as XLR.

I like the car just fine . . . I just don't see the average mouthbreather picking the car over an M3, despite any performance advantage.

Cadillac has been down too long and too hard to come back and demand pricing that's in-line or above the German marques. When Lexus introduced itself to the market, it was SIGNIFICANTLY less than a comparable Mercedes. This won them sales, despite having no name and coming out second in many comparisons.

We'll see what happens . . .

A CTS-V at 50K is way overpriced when one looks at a global view. The car is 400-500 lbs. heavier than an M3, so it'll yield about the same performance, despite the hp advantage. Also, it won't be compared to an M5 as much as GM hopes it will. So on a performance measure, it will be on par or below an M3. But, what are resale values for GM cars. Poor. What is GM's overall reputation for quality. Poor. What's the perception of styling interior/exterior. Poor. What's the cost of a CTS-V vs. M3. Low, considering the LS6 is a pushrod engine. All these factors mean it won't sell well, despite all the positive media and coverage unless its significantly cheaper than the competition. Low 40s it will sell very well, upper 40s sales will be so so, over 50 it will sell in very small numbers, and will disappear after a couple of years.

BTW, my universe is not dominated by Camaro's, rather Trans Am's. When you look at my job (electrical engineer), age (30) and so on I should be a prime candidate for a C5/C6 or CTS-V. But, as much as I hate to admit it, I probably will never buy one. I like performance bargains, or I'll choose prestige. Current performance bargains are the '03/'04 Mustang Cobra, EVO, WRX STi. Prestige, an M3/M5. I'd buy any of these cars over a C5/C6 or CTS-V. And the only car's I've ever purchased up to this point are Trans Am's (2 '91s and an '01). Because I prefer to be frugal (live in the Bay Area, so house prices make investing and good money management important), an '06/'07 Cobra will likely be my next car. Not too expensive, with a S/C engine that is built to handle lots more hp and boost, IRS, and styling that I like. To show how much things have changed in my mind over a 1.5 year period, I used to think my '01 WS6 was a performance bargain. But when one considers all the S/C'ed or Turbocharged cars that are now becoming available, these are the true bargains. Not only do you get lots of power to start off with, but you have to spend very little to get a lot more.

I think CTS-V will outperform M3, and by the estimates given, it will.

As for M5, I think it'll win there too... for a lot less money. The thing is, I don't even think GM is targeting the M5 with this car like you suggest. I am pretty confident in saying that we will see and STS-V in a few years that will have M5 as it's target.

Now, I will agree with you on GM's repuation for quality compared to BMW's... but I think moving upscale with Cadillac is the right move. Build the product, price it in line with the compitition and react from there, if needed. Pricing it 'cheap' is going to make it look 'cheap'.

The whole 'anti-pushrod' arguement doesn't hold much water with me... the engine performs. Period.

There is nothing wrong with wanting the best bang for your buck, but by saying all this, you are basically saying you are not someone who would purchase something like this anyway, so your opinion really becomes and outsiders view so to speak. If you don't want to call it a "Camaro point of view", we can call it a "Trans Am point of view", if that really matters.

If your only reason is 'prestige' to purchase a BMW over the Cadillac, well, selling all their cars cheap is not gaoing to make Cadillac more prestigious... by pricing them in line with BMW, it inherantly becomes more prestigious, because it is harder to obtain, and again, lines itself against the target, the M3.

Just because you can't afford doesn't mean no one else can.

even at $50K it is still $12K cheaper than a Jaguar S type R and $22K than a 394HP BMW M5.

The only other 400HP car you can get for $50K is a Z06 or a $35K Cobra and neither one of those is a 4-door luxury car.

GM will have no trouble selling all 2500-3000 CTSvs that they build

Im 20 years old, exactly out of the CTSv market, and I'd give body limbs for one.

The thing the CTSv has going for it sales wise is its American. Sounds stupid, but if this is a solid car, and a real solid car, people who were traditional American car buyers who went to Imports will come back. I cant remember who said it, but someone mentioned that this is the kind of car that people like that have been waiting for, and will pay good money for.

Oh yes, I can afford it. I just think it's overpriced.

And yes, if they only want to sell 2,500-3K, they should be able to move that many. However, it would have been a lot more fun to see them move 10K or 20K and really eat into M3 and S4 sales.

Yeah, it'll be performer - but I agree with Centric. At $50,000, it is way overpriced. I can't believe they'd charge that much. It'd be asking for failure. Is anyone going to belive that by adding a pushrod (I'm assuming cadillac buyers are at least savvy enought to know of the cost advantages of a pusrod engine) engine and a six speed transmission adds twenty thousand dollars of value to a $30,000 car? For twenty thousand dollars I can buy a similar V8 - and the truck it comes in!

Cadillac may want prestige, but they don't have it yet. They need to be more than just competitive to succeed. Just charging more and expecting to suddenly have prestige is flawed. I could charge $50,000 for a cavalier, but it wouldn't make it prestigious!

It would be great for them to succed with this car, but I don't think they can do it priced above $40-45K.

Then you would agree an M5 or S-Type R is also overpriced?

Doesn;t a Z06 run like 50K?
