Glad so see you've finaly come to your sences.
I won't drive mine in snow and I don't autocross it so I don't care. As long as it's fast and goes straight.

You just provved my piont for me. There are people who drive in show (and other bad weather) and people who auto cross, so why not give them the OPTION to have a great AWD camaro.

Are you going to be buying a top of the line Camaro? If not, I believe your input isn't needed here

In no way will an optional AWD system taint the Camaro name, if anything it'll make it look more great. You even said yourself that the AWD model would outperform its RWD equivalent, hasn't the Camaro always been about performance? Thats sticking to the history of the Camaro still, while taking a next step. In order for the next gen to be successful, GM is going to have to listen to what the masses have to say more than us, and right now a lot are saying "We want AWD!"

On a side note, I think its rather humorous that we can take a CTS thread and turn it into a Camaro AWD debate

Re: CTS sales on the rise

I don't post often, but I'd just like to say that if GM can make a V8 AWD Camaro and price it competitively with an STI or EVO MR, I'd buy it in a second.

It seems to me that in order to get back what GM has lost in market share, perceived technology lag, and general desirability, they need to embrace the future and not cling to the past. The past should be respected, but not duplicated.

In addition to the performance benefit, I'd be interested in an AWD option living in a snowy winter climate. That would justify the expense since it could be my daily driver (i.e. no need for a Camaro and a beater).

Re: CTS sales on the rise

hmmm lets see the 300M and the Magnum are going AWD the STS is AWD...umm the popular cars for racing have AWD..the STi and the Evolution...all cases to make a AWD Camaro..

The Camaro is not sold well in the north cus of its RWD and high power...but the Subaru cars sell like hot cakes and the WRX STi sorry but that thing just hauls butt and can stay pace in a straight line with a F Body...so whats your point?

And to those who say its to much or heavy or this and that with V8 and AWD...who said it would be V8???

HOW BOUT A REAL RS RALLY SPORT???? AWD WITH A NICE TURBO V6 OR SUPERCHARGED V6????? JUST FOR AOUTCROSS EVENTS...

Im sure the charger will be AWD offered???

ohh and to you who says SS is the top Camaro...if you really knew I would take Z28 as the top Camaro,....IF GM set it up the way it is supposed to be...Z28 was the top Camaro performance..no frills and bells and whistles just power...

Re: CTS sales on the rise

As someone who lives in a place it snows a fair amount, dates a girl who lives where it snows A LOT, and would love to have a practical, daily driver Camaro for my next car, lemme say...

Give it AWD as a $2,000 option. I'd buy it in a second, and know A LOT of 4th gen owners who would too. In the snow belt, the light weight and high power of a 4th gen makes it seen as a 3 season car. Sure, with studded snows you can drive it in the snow...but it ain't fun. I drove an '89 Camaro in the winter for 4 years with 14" Monte Carlo ralleys and studded snows on the back (regular snows on the front). I didn't get stuck once, and you could say I have a lot of experience driving in heavy snow...

I would not even consider the Z28, even with studded snows, if I really had somewhere to go. My '89 was made a lot easier to drive because of 135hp...the Z, with 300 or so the way I have it, would be tail-happy with the SLIGHTEST twitch of the throttle. Fun when you want it...an accident waiting to happen if you don't. Disagree with me? If you don't live up north, I don't wanna hear from you

I am all for it AS AN OPTION. Again, apparently some people have a problem understanding the term OPTION. It would make a Camaro a more popular, better overall car. I lost a lot of Firebird sales in 2002 because people felt they would need a second car. If they were looking at a Formula or higher? I agreed with them...

Re: CTS sales on the rise

AWD makes a car cost as much as a 'vette? Tell that to Subaru. O_o

Everyone else seems to be able to pull of AWD in the mid 20's, so GM should be able to do it as well.

AWD with a RWD balance (ala Skyline) would be great for PR and performance. Sheds the image of the spinning RWD top in cold weather, shows that the car is "modern" and "high tech" which car magazines will eat up. Does it have to be standard? No. Just make it an option for a few thousand dollars, give people something to step up to.

People like KillerTA who will be cranky because someone has a better car than them? That means they'll either buy the cheaper one and wish they had the better one, or step up to the more expensive one because they insist on having the best.

Win win for GM.

Re: CTS sales on the rise

you can't do a burnout in AWD, nor can you powerslide. I see tire shredding burnouts as one of the trademarks of our cars. It will be pretty lame having a Camaro that you can't light them up in. Also, if you want better traction, get some drag slicks. You'll pull just as good of a 60' time. And AWD cars do have a tendency to tear up when you have to do a 5k drop clutch launch to prevent bogging.

Butchering the V6 Camaro would destroy the car and send it right back on hiatus. V6 models make up the bulk of the sales for the car while the v8 models make up for about 30-40% of the sales.

As far as AWD, I could live with it as an option and as long as it didnt drive up the price of the other models too much due to manufacturing costs.

Re: CTS sales on the rise

Ok...this is all nice and everything, but please take it over to the newly formed "Yay or Nay to AWD Camaro" thread. Enough, this is about teh CTS.

Its good to hear that the CTS's sales are up, and are going up every year. With the addition of teh 6spd to both teh 2.8 and 3.6, it could deffinatly add a lot of fun and perhaps bring in some more people who would look elsewhere. I think that a bump in power for 06 would help the CTS move further to take more sales. Id like to see 270 out of the 3.6 and 230 for the 2.8. Im sure the CTS-V and its racing team have brought some more enthuisasts into the Caddy show rooms who would look at something else. I have yet to really drive a CTS to its full extent, but I hear its an awesome machine. I think that the CTS, with a new inteiror and more power int he 6cyls, could deffinatly become the best mid sized luxury performance sedan on the market.
