CTS sales on the rise

Re: CTS sales on the rise
I agree 110%. GM is HORRIBLE at incremental improvements. Up until the mid 1990s, it seemed we'd get new things to aging models every few years. For instance, the Grand Am from '92-'95 was mildly restyled and had an all-new inside in '96, with a new 4 cylinder engine. Grand Prix sedans had the same basic style from '90-'95, but got an all new interior in '95. The Series II 3800 debuted in the '95 Bonneville even though the rest of the car dated to '92. I know these are all Pontiac examples, but they are the first that come to mind...
Now take the current Grand Am. The same style, right down to the wheels, for 5 model years. Same ugly dash. The engines that were good enough in 1999 were woefully weak in 2004. I give GM credit for at least shortening model cycles, but they still need noticeable changes every couple years to keep the blood moving. Look at all the changes third generation F bodies had compared to fourths. Gee, maybe THAT had a little to do with the sales decline, eh?

Another example is with the W-body
97-04 Regals and Century's all used the same motors, exact same interior, the only styling change was the Regal went to a body colored grill one year and they changed the wheels every couple of years. And maybe they changed the cloth fabric
Impala has been exactly the same since its introction, except for the SS model, which the only real difference is the 3.8 S/C V6 and a spoiler and wheels. Same thing can be said about the Monte Carlo SS
97-03 Grand Prix, same interior the whole time, same engines, suspesion, etc. The only real changes were changing wheels occasially, and SLP made a different version with a bigger spoiler and hood scoops.
98-02 fbody's got minimal changes. Different wheels in 2000 for Camaro, different seat fabric at some point, LS6 intake for 01 along with some emmisions control changes. The only thing we got were the special edition cars, which consisted of a stripe, wheels, and emblem swaps.

Did you guys read this in that Autoweek article:
"Since its debut in 2002, Cadillac has increased CTS sales by limiting initial supply and adding variants. It will continue the strategy with a convertible in the next generation, due in 2007, a company source says"
Could this also mean that there is a coupe in the works?

This was a discussion here some time ago, about CTC (CTCoupe, versus CTSedan), as well as convertible. I don't remember hearding how official it was, though. Appears, from the article, that convertible will make it.

Who in their right mind would do an AWD Camaro? I guess it could compete against its main competitors, Subaru and Mitsubishi then
That's like destroying a 30+ year tradition, I'd rather keep the car dead.
Re: CTS sales on the rise
1. The CTSv is the coolest car being produced by any company. In the world. Any price.
2. Id sell my soul for an AWD V8 Camaro. The day I bought it I'd have Kuhmo Victorracer v700s on it and I'd have it at an autocross.

Re: CTS sales on the rise
News is that the CTS will shrink about 3-5 inches in wheel base for the next generation, but gain a coupe and vert. Good move, and will keep the numbers up.
I do agree that the biggest downfall is the interior, but now with Lutz in control, im sure we will deffinatly see a 3 series beater.

Should we make it a 4 door while we're at it?

I just can't see ever changing the main idea behind the fbody even if it is an option. I would never even want the choice of AWD, I think it would taint the Camaro name.

I dont like V6's, automatics, hardtops, or manual window/locks; but they help to sell the F-body without taniting its image.
Re: CTS sales on the rise
This is why AWD should not be on the Camaro:
1. It will add unneccsarry complexity and increase the cost of the car.
2. It goes against all that the Camaro had stood for in its 35 years.
3. It would add weight to the car. Our Camaro needs to be kept as light as possible(ideally it should be about 3000lbs, but that is never going to happen)
4. We don't need something else that will break and tear up, especially when you start modding the car to 500whp.
5. It will put more weight on the nose of the car. Our big V8 is already heavy enough up there.
