I Loved my trailblazer, it was a great size. Not Silverado huge, and not Colorado tiny. Great I6 engine (with very reasonable mileage) and you can put all the v8's in it.

The Platform that the TB and its siblings is being phased out. The Colorado/Canyon are admittedly outclassed and need redone.

Why not? The envoy XUV crazy thing does not count (coming from an Avalanche owner )

Chevy SSR

I believe the original reason for not using the TrailBlazer platform for the Colorado was cost.

Probably because nobody is buying trucks anymore.

BS. Especially with the (likely temporary) decline in fuel prices. People will allways need and buy trucks. Not every soccer mom like when gas was cheap, but still. Why did they not do this years ago? A mid sized truck with reasonable payload, towing and mileage would sell better than the Colorado, IMO.

Not everyone needs or wants a relatively HUGE truck, but the small trucks are just too damn small.

"Nobody" was not literal. But you can ask any automotive industry follower... trucks are not selling like hotcakes.

I think GM missed an oppoutunity as well. Colorado/Canyon are only barely larger then then S-10 they replaced--its still a small truck that can't tow much.

People who actually need to buy trucks are buying trucks. Those who were simply buying them as status symbols and nothing more are in fact the reason why truck purchases are down between 25 and 45% overall compared with a year ago.

Mid sized trucks lost their luster even before then. People who want smal trucks by smaller trucks. Mid size truck buyers simply spring for large trucks because of both capacity and price... more capacity with little difference in price.

The real question is should GM's next small truck be Delta II or Theta based?

Yup and with optional AWD. If gas prices are higher and people don't need it to tow a huge boat or anything then even FWD should be fine. Think about what Ridgeline buyers do with their trucks For those that need more there is still the Silverado.

IIRC there was discussion within GM about a GMT360 tuck but people felt it would steal sales away from the higher volume, higher profit Silverado/Sierra trucks.

Personally, I never saw the value in the Colord/Canyon trucks. Most of them on the lots were priced to the point that I could buy a lighter option Silverado/Sierra for the same money (or close), with only a marginal fuel penalty, and a huge advantage in capability.

Those people do not need a truck then. People in Europe tow things and they get by w/o trucks just fine.

Havent seen any Ridgeline used as a truck yet. It is nothing more than a status symbol, and people like the idea of a truck without needing one.

Right, those are the poeple that want a truck to put their mountain bike in, Get bags of mulch from Home Depot, move furniture. I think there is a market for an Equinox or HHR based 4cyl. truck, but it isn't that same people that buy Silverados.
