How are these trucks dong in their market? I haven't heard much about them. Do they have bugs still being worked out? My pontiac dealership mechanic friend says they're pieces of crap, but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I Love the look of them. They're one new vehicle I'd seriously consider.

 

Well my friend bought the Canyon about a year ago. He is happy with it and after being driven in it a few times, I was a little caught off by the extra interior room and the decent sized truck bed. Its definitely an improvement over the S-10 that he used to drive.

 

They're good for the low prices you can get them for, but compared to the higher priced competition they're not too hot in a variety of respects (build quality, off-road prowess, towing, power, etc).

So I guess as is very common with GM right now, they're not bad for the money, but just be aware that you're getting what you pay for to an extent.

 

I think that is why my father ended up purchasing a brand new Dodge Dakota last year over the Chevy Colorado he was looking at. The Dakota came loaded with alot more options and an overall price several thousands less. He got mad when he found out he had to pay extra for a sliding rear window and those plastic wheel well flares or whatever they are called on the Colorado.

 

The twins are out on top of the midsize market. August sucked because there were hardly any 05s left on the lots.

I have no idea... talk about a truck with no advantage over the competition. It's not a BAD truck, it's just not a good truck in any way that I'm aware of.

I guess it's the same reason that people still buy the antiquated Ford Taurus despite the fact that I can't find a single redeeming quality about it? Granted they're replacing/have replaced the Taurus with the Fusion and Five Hundred which seem to be significantly improved (the fusion especially)... but still, that doesn't change the fact that people continue to buy Tauruses in strangely high numbers.

I've got a 2004 Colorado Z71 in addition to my 2002 Z28. Pretty decent truck, great in the snow, and gets close to 20 MPG with I5/A4. Much better truck than my 2002 Ranger was.

 

No, it's a proper name. Proper names are not subject to the regular rules of creating plurals .

I think the Ranger just sells well because of loyalty. As you know truck buyers are among the most loyal on the planet, and there's still millions of "Ford guys" out there. It takes quite a bit to overcome momentum in some segments of the market.

Build quality will be as high or higher than the Toyota since the two companies rate right next to each other on JDPowers initial quality guide. Power the I4 is above EVERYONE else's. The I5 is down on power to Toyota's V6, Dodge's V8, and Nissan's V6 but it gets better gas mileage than all three. Towing, hey you got me there they don't tow as much as the others BUT if you tow a lot I would get a half ton anyways. Off road Prowess, please the Z71 off road 4x4s with the G80 locker will kick the Toyota et all butts off road. There are lift kits available and since the H3 uses essentially the same running gear and it can 'go anywhere' I doubt it would have any trouble.

Oh yeah with the GMT355 twins you have more options than all others on the market. You can get the I4 with standard, extended, or crew cab configurations. You can get the stick on the standard or extended cabs with either engine. You can get the base model if you want or you can get the Z85 2wd or 4wd with or without the LS package. Same with the Z71 package. You can get the ZQ8 sport suspension with 17" rims on a 2wd in I4 or I5 power in any cab configuration. If you want big rims and nicer lines you can get the Xtreme package on an LS truck in extened or crew cab, which is a little lower and stiffer suspension than the ZQ8. It also includes 18" rims different fender flares and a body color grill and unique front bumper.

Basically you can get YOUR truck how you want it.

 

I am not a truck guy at all, but we get the occasional truck magazine at work, and most of the mags seem to think that the Colorado is plenty good for serious off roading. Its always one of the strong points mentioned about that truck.

edit: there is a difference betwen build quality and perceived quality (of materials used). if you know of some build quality problems, you should list them

Just some of the reasons I didn't buy one. Hopefully they'll work the bugs out in a few.

 

GMT355 twins are the best selling md-size truck in America

If they were offered with a 4.8L V8, 6 speed auto/ 6 speed manual and a more upscale interior on the more expensive models then the Colorado would blow by the Taco in sales.

Othr small improvement would be offer some more rim and tire options on the Z71 and add hood struts. DIC like the Cobalts would be nice too.

Other than that it is a great truck, good mix of utility, size, mpg, etc.. If you want some thing bigger or that can tow 8000lbs. but a Silverdo.
